As far as the old truck as Dave said, I tried something similar. Wash with ajax & scrub. But then instead of wax (I don't have much paint on it, just rust) I used a combo I googled for online for "patina" which was a mix of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits to wipe over everything. I did the hood and the roof, it actually brought out a little yellow in the hood which was the color before it was "painted" in 2003. I use the term painted very lightly, because the dry way the guy sprayed it was more like dusting than painting! But what you don't know at first that you find out later, the patina stuff is not permanent it only lasts a couple of months at the most.
The new tires look great (y)
It will be a few weeks but once I do the detailing I will be sure to post up the progress and photos. I also will look at a few motor upgrades. Currently it takes a bit to idle from a cold start, definitely sounds like it has a vacuum leak, I have not dove in yet to identify the issue just what I have noticed the last few times I have driven the truck. I'm debating if I want to do intake, carb and valve cover gaskets first or headers and exhaust. I am going to be ordering new Monroe shocks for all 4 corners, and I have a drop pair of shackles for the rear.
I want it all ready for that Sept 28th show.
I like to dump a qt of ATF in and let it idle to get up to temp before draining. The ATF helps clean the inside.
When draining the oil and changing the filter I seen some oil weeping and dripping off the bottom of the motor & transmission

While draining I pumped some grease in the king pins and tie rods and the over drive shifter.
Motor took 6 qt of oil with the filter and I only bought a jug of 5. Lucky I had half a qt of oil and a bottle of STP and that got me the extra qt I needed.
After the oil was filled I took up on the valve cover and side cover bolts and hope that takes care of the oil weeping.
I also was able to get a little bit on the 2 PS lines going into the box as it was damp / dripping there too.
Then got real crazy and sprayed the motor and under side with de-greaser and hosed it off.
And blew the inside the cab out of any dirt. Works better than a vacuum.
Tomorrow before the cruise in I will wash the truck as I have not done it in along time.
I also have to do the weekly trash run before the cruise.
Dave ----
I didn't know anything about the Rad Days of Summer, I will share it on our club's facebook page since we do know lots of people with 80's and 90's vehicles.
Got the truck washed and all dried off.
Hope I dont get too many bugs on it as the truck need a good coat of wax, been a few years since I did it and it is showing.
If it stays clean maybe I can get a coat on during the week before the Littleton show on the 31st.
Got that all done before the weekly trash run.
Got to have a good looking garbage truck

I forgot to ask how was the Mustang after the Garner outing any oil drops?

Speaking of my new toolbox:
Fuzz gave me this tool box a few months ago, it had been sitting outside his shop for a long time and was taken apart. So the first thing I did when I got it home was pressure wash it real good and clean it out. I was in the middle of doing that when my son-in-law stopped over. He expressed some interest in it, so I said if he helped repair the hinge and clean it up & put it back together, we could put it on his truck. But he never mentioned it again and the box sat there all this time, finally I said to heck with him, I will put it on my truck. I like this style where the whole top opens better than the style I currently have, which is where the sides open individually.
This was the old one.
This is the one Dave gave me
I had to do some repairs to the hinge and then install about 10 rivnuts to get the top back in place. I got some generic weatherseal from the hardware store since the old stuff was dry rotted away.

Yes everyone but you showed up. Louis even found 3 more that tagged along, 1 may become a member, that made think 11 of us in convoy.
We did have some issues before we left Sheetz on 50/42.
Andre's car had a hard time restart hot. He said you and him installed a electronic kit for points. Said it starts (cold) and runs better but did not check timing as some say you dont have to and others say do check. Only happens hot restart like a low battery so he is going to call me and I will head over with my dial back timing light and check it for him.
Then Louis car was stuck in gear and could not back out of the spot. I told him he needed to take the shifter a part at the base of the steering column.
He was then able to get it out of gear and guessed it worked as he made it to the cruise and guess back home.
Me taking up the rear, in FV at 42/55/401, we were going to take 42 to Sanford for the guys that dont drive high way or cant (Dale). Sitting at the light I get a bump from behind
A kid in a duly bumped me, he was trying to open a stick of gum and took his foot off the brake. Good thing I had the trailer ball on and he hit it and stopped before he hit the bumper and maybe bent brackets etc. I thought maybe he drove over the ball and got hung up but it just pushed in the plastic bumper on his truck. I hope he was not going to chew gum and drive at the same time could be bad
Then time for catch up, last I heard all going down 42 so that is the way I went not to catch them till we all got to the cruise, me first and then the convoy a min behind. Come to find out Tony used Way (sp?) for mapping that took them a longer route but also on RT1 at 70 MPH. I know tiger mike way not happy "beating on my car like that" as we know Dale's only goes 50 MPH so that is how fast they were going.
When I got to the cruise it was packed and I was early so I parked at the end of a line in the drive. A guy come out to point others to a different parking lot and that is when the others pulled in. I was able to move my truck to join the group.
BTW Kurt showed up with his truck. I knew he did not have a lot of miles on it yet, 58 mile on it at the cruise, but being close to Apex I thought he could give it a good run. He said the other day on a test the trans gave a error msg? Talking to tech they said he had the controller set for a v8 and not a 6 cly.
When he took it for a test drive the next day it would not shift out of first! Thinking he hit a setting that should not have he looked if over and now ok but was a reason why he did not want to drive to the cruise.
He was going to take old RT1 at a slower speed but missed the turn or something and got on RT1 and when he got up to 60 MPH he side it started to shake he got off next exit.
He did not know what it could be as the drive shaft is new and should have been balanced. I ask if it ever did it before the motor / trans swap and he said the truck was only use around town so never over like 50 MPH. He did make it home as I told him to let me know.
The cruise, I did not walk around but there were a lot of nice cars & trucks. Being where we were we could see what came in after us and left as we stayed till the end. Some went to eat but I did not hear how it was and if no one said anything maybe it was not that good?
Tool box looks good. Take it it was not hard to fix? I did not have anything it would fit and why I never got to fixing it all the way.
Think I told you it was on the parts truck when it rolled. Think it had stuff in it and might have popped open in the roll?
I guess the SIL wants a tool box he can get the old one
I had a chrome rear bumper off the truck I also gave away as ti would not fit the flare side.Dave ----
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I know the app you are referring to, my wife uses it and it's called WAYZ. I'm sure there's probably a setting to avoid the highway, oh well too late now. I don't trust using any app for guiding me in an old car, I usually look at it on google maps, find the route I want to take and write down in my phone, and then I put the address in maps. I ignore it and follow my own instructions until I get close, and then I let it guide me in.
I know Mike doesn't like driving too fast in his car, and Wayne doesn't either. I think Wayne has 4:11 gears so by the time you hit 55mph it sounds like an airplane winding up for take off!
Glad to hear Kurt made it, I was following his progression on the email thread although I haven't replied. Usually by the time I read it someone else has already made a comment that I was thinking of anyway. Now I'm wondering about his vibration and thinking how can we figure out a way to segment it and isolate to either engine, driveline, or wheels / tires.
Regarding the toolbox, the hinge did not look like the lid was ripped off in a crash, the rivets were cleanly cut, it looked more like they were being cut and then when he reached the last two, had no one support the other end of the lid so that last 6 or 8 inches of hinge was deformed and torn. But I just tapped it straight with a hammer and block of wood and put a screw in it to hold it in place and still does it's job. I think if son-in-law wants my old one, he better notice & ask about it quick, cause it's gonna go on marketplace soon
If he did not see me he would have been waiting along time for us

Andre's was slow cranking like a low battery or timing. I did not hear it but he told me as we were waiting for other to show.
I asked about checking timing when installed he said you guys did not. I did say that is the first place to start.
Guess who helped him check it today

The timing marks are a strange combo of things. It has a pointer with numbers of 0, 3, 6, 10 but on the balancer it had a sh** load of lines and not one I could pick to use for TDC. I even wanted to pull #1 plug to set to TDC but could not get the wire off and did not want to break it and not have a way to fix or replace.
So it was a guess at best but I think base is about 10* to 13* BTDC spec on line was 10* but can set up to 15* BTDC
I did not change the timing till I know just where TDC is for the marks.
I did check mechanical was working and did not look like it was sticking and vacuum advance also worked giving about 38* total based on the timing marks and my light.
With heat in the motor he wanted me to adjust the carb idle mixture and idle speed. The screws were out a lot.
Think it leaned out and ran pretty good with 18 to 19 hg vacuum when done and I did it by ear. Dont know idle RPM as I set that by ear also and did not bring my meter for that. I can say it did not stall going in and out of gear so we are

The just roll into me, no damage because I had the ball still mounted other wise it could have been bad.
Dont know why Tony went that way as we talked about it a day before when others said they were meeting at 50/42 and they would go down 42 and Tony said 42 went right into Sanford? Also 42 speed limit is 55 MPH but they do 60+ and it is only 1 lane. There is a good size hill that Dale was down to 40 MPH LOL
I do the same as you I look up where the place is on Google maps (computer so I can see it) to see the best way to go. I can bring it up on my phone but I know what roads I want to take and keep an eye for them to make my turns. I did the same thing when working and had anew place to go to so I would have half a clue LOL.
Also with Google you can enter not to take high ways or toll roads I dont know if you can do that with wayz?
I am going to reach out to Kurt tomorrow to see when he is open for me to come by.
He left his chair and forgot to give me back my remote start button. This way I will take a ride with him to see what I think it is. 2 heads are better than 1.
The way he was talking it sounded more like front end issues but will see on a test run.
On the tool box what I remembered it was not that hard to fix it was just a project that did not need doing now

Good to see you got it fixed and works out better than the one you had.
I was going to say you can put the other box in the 80's truck but that is a flare side and will not fit.
How about the red PU? Market place is good too.
Dave ----
Dave, I don't know much about all the settings for WAYZ, but my wife uses it and likes it. It is a 2 way thing, as you are not only getting routing data from them, but they also collect data from you as you are going - location and speed. So if several WAYZ users are only going 5mph on a road that is 65mph the system understands something is going on causing traffic to back up, so it begins to route other users onto alternate routes. You as a user can punch in speed traps and accidents so it also warns other users of that.
Makes sense that with a better spark, Andre would need a less rich mixture. From what you describe it really sounds like he needs to get a new set of plugs and wires, as they must be pretty old to be totally seized in place like that. 18-19 inches of hg sounds pretty good to me, I think my truck has about 16 max and my Mustang only pulls 13. 18 would make for a smooth idle I think.
My F100 had a slow crank like that sometimes, not always, but when hot I would say 50% of the time had a slow crank. But when the bendix in the starter went bad and I installed a hi-torque mini-starter it just powers right through and I have never noticed it again.
Speaking of my F100, it has started to run not-great recently. Last time I drove it, seemed down on power at light throttle and off-idle. But when I give it at least half throttle, roars right up and runs fine. I was combing my memory to think of when I encountered this before, and I remembered my Mustang doing the same thing, and ultimately I found that the choke had wandered out and was partly closed. But I checked the F100 and choke is completely open so it's not that. It is almost as if the timing is suddenly off a little, or a vacuum leak, or maybe the vac advance not working properly, which solves itself when RPM is high enough to start pushing centrifugal advance. Just thinking out loud. If you have any thoughts or suggestions let me know.
It would be fun when you had new construction for low weight bridges and tight turns but only 1 way to get there or had to go to an air port with low under passes and 1 way roads if you went the wrong way would have to back out with traffic coming at you! I was lucky I never had to do that but something you think of going in.
I told Andre to had a 1/2" wrench handy, I marked the dist. base and the hold down and if it is a issue starting to loosen the hold down just enough he has to use a little force to turn the dist. to retard timing to get it started then can either leave it or turn it back.
But also told him drive it a little more and see how it goes. We also grounded the coil wire to the block and it cranked the same as if he was trying to start it.
When we tested it in the garage it was ok so who knows?
When was the last time you drove the 100? Could it have picked up water from somewhere?
With all the rain we had a lot of water in gas complaints have been filed.
Tony's bug did the same thing Saturday. Said it had a little stumble and ran a little ruff in my drive.
But the drive to Sanford he said it was ok. He did stop for gas after my house but before the meet up at 50/42 so who knows?
I filled up the pickup think before the rains and yesterday going to Andre's I switched from the 16 gallon front to the 19 gallon rear and runs fine on both.
Now that I dont drive to Apex everyday I dont use any gas. Cant remember the last time I got gas in the Durango?
Think I have used more in the garden tractor cutting the grass than my trucks

Maybe the 100 is upset you spent all that time on the Mustang and not him

Other than maybe it was damp under hood from sitting and it got under the dist. cap or plug wires leaking I dont know what it could be.
I think I would drive it a little more and see what happens as it my fix its self or gives more of a clue what it could be?
Kurt texted me and he is heading over to my house today. I was going to text him but thought 6am was early after the gym this morning.
Said he plans to leave Apex around 11am so thinking here about 12.
I have has chair from the cruise and he forgot to give me my start button. Also think we are going to road test his truck to find why it shakes above 60 MPH.
That is if he drives the truck and I think he will and why he wants to come here.
Dave ----
Then with that storm that blew all the trees & branches down last week (or maybe a little more than a week), I had a branch come down so I cut it up and took it to the landfill. But I didn't get any gas as I still had 1/2 tank left after Selma.
I am sensitive about upsetting the F100, I try to park it where it can't see what is going on in the carport. But I know it can see me backing out of the driveway in the red truck so it could just be anger & jealousy. Maybe if I drive it 2 more times this week, it won't feel that way

I have a plumber coming to Tom's some time today after 12, otherwise I would like to come over & see Kurt and the vibrating Bullnose.
Sometimes with heat from the motor makes steam and it condenses under the cap.
Drive it more so it dose not feel left out other wise I got nothing

Went for a ride with Kurt and you could feel something up at 60 / 65 MPH, I think a tire with a flat spot.
He said it was not as bad this time as it was on Saturday. On the way to my house he did not get it up to 60 on the back roads.
When we did the turn around and got it back up to speed it felt even less then when we went out. So what ever it is is working its self out.
He did say the front shocks need to be replaced. I also said put each wheel off the ground and spin it to see if a thread belt is bad etc.
When he started the motor to go for the test I heard the fan belt ALT make noise?
Went for the test, thing pulls really good up to looked like 4K RPM. Got back and Kurt said it is making a new noise?
Open the hood and the fan belt is rubbing the brackets and ALT shreaded the belt so we cut it off for the number and got a new one as it is not a normal pulley setup. Well had a hard time figuring how the belt ran but got it on there.
On start up it looked tome like the tension pulley was to far forward and think that is what pushed the belt to the back and off the pulleys.
Man that transmission shifts hard into 2nd gear. I would say when wet and get on it the tires will break loose.
I think once he has the belt fixed so it will stay put and puts miles on it to trust more he will have a sweet truck.
Dave ----
The Mazdaratti had flat spots on the tires like that, it sat for probably 5 years with the tires low. When I first drove it, it was terrible. I cranked the air up to 40psi and figured the higher pressure would help force them into round. Of course I only had it about 2 weeks before Andre saw it, fell in love with it, and bought it off me. He never replaced the tires but they definitely did improve from being driven more.
Why does Kurt's tranny shift hard into 2nd, did he put a shift kit in there? I'd rather a hard firm shift than a soft sloppy one, but then if it seems too hard maybe it needs attention.
How come we didn't see any fan belt problem on startup, seems like one of us should have noticed the belt rubbing the bracket! I probably just didn't have my glasses on
