Hey Twisted I had to put a starter in my F100 earlier this year, same thing as you described - spin but not engage. Well I should say, spin and engage 1 time out of 10. If I sat there trying long enough it would finally catch. I guess the bendix was going bad. The good news that I have for you is that the starter replacement was the easiest I have ever done, it is right there very easy to get to, both bolts easily accessible. I went with a high torque mini-starter from JEGS instead of just buying a replacement from Autozone. I don't know if it was really worth the extra money but so many people told me that the current rash of over-the-counter parts from China had a high failure rate on new starters.
Twisted I like the plates
I run the normal plate on the rear as I have a 81 but got this on the front
Going over my calendar I see this Saturday 8/17 there is a cruise in in Wilson NC.
Burger Boy Cruise Night
201 Ward St.
Wilson NC.
4pm to 8pm
Every 3rd Saturday
I dont think I can make it but I see it is about 30 miles for you.
For us it is about 55 to 60 miles.
We have not been to this one as we just got the flyer so dont know how many or what may show up.
Also dont know much going on up your way as we are closer to Benson / Four Oaks / Smithfield / Selma area

I like your license plate. I run year plates on my Beetle and now the F100.
The Cruise-In looks cool but i dont think I could make it this weekend. Lots of things going on.

Thanks. I am probably going to get a reman from Oreilly's since i dont have time for it to really be down. Maybe down the road I will look at an upgraded/performance starter.
I placed an order with O'Reilly's and they will have one tomorrow. Ill pull the bad starter tonight, double check it and then i can bring it the bad one to avoid the core charge.
Well if you cant make it this month there is next month as it is held on the 3rd Saturday.
I think in the coming months your car club will be up that way to Princeton around vet day and Lacoma at the race track.
When I have dates I will post them

Twisted, did your starter come in and were you able to tackle the job yet? If you need a hand let me know I don't think you'd be more than 30 minutes away from me.
Dave we moved that heavy lathe at Tom's yesterday. Wayne was there with 2 motors on the trailer which we took off and put inside the shop, then Tom said while there was 3 of us lets try to tackle moving the equipment. We tried 3 or 4 ways of lifting it before finally getting it right, lifted the heavy end using the engine hoist and put 2 skates under it, then lifted the lighter end using a floor jack and put 1 skate under it. Then rolled right into place and lowered it back down. There is still one more motor to go get in Micro but it will wait until Tom's next visit. Also in NY he has I think 3 motors inside his garage. Along with my 400 I guess that means there will be at least 8 inside the shop. I'm going to have to make an effort to bring everything of mine back to my house because he's running out of space!

I will mark on my calendar, just so I am aware of it. I am no longer going out of town this weekend so maybe I will head up to cruise in. If I do Ill probably make a video and post it.

I am picking up the starter this afternoon after work. I should be good replacing it but thank you for the offer. I did the Fuel pump in my 01 Silverado last night so this one should be easier lol. It does look like I am leaking fluids (probably oil) onto the starter and it ultimately what more than likely killed it.
I am looking at tire sizes. I have the 15" 10 hole aluminum wheels from the 90s Ford trucks. I am thinking of going to 255/70r15 Cooper Cobra tire. Anyone see any issues with that setup. Ill do a square set more than likely unless you all think a 235/70r15 would be better up front.
I appreciate everyone being so welcoming and helpful.
Those wheels are very similar to mine, which are from a 94 XLT. This is with 235/70-15 on the front and 31-10.5-15 on the rear
I didn't like the smaller-in-front-bigger-in-back look, so I ended up going back and getting two more 13x10.5R15 for the front. I wish I had a better picture, but this was what I could find. The 31-10.5 by 15 fill the wheelwell so much better, stock springs, stock suspension, does not rub when turning, in fact has never rubbed at all any time.
I put the 235/70R15's on the front of my 83 because it's tires were dry rotted. This has the 235/70R15 all the way around, in my opinion still a little small because it looks like the wheelwell wants a little bit bigger combo.
On the wheels how wide are they? You can only go so wide with a tire to safely fit the wheel.
I have used Tire Rack . com and used their tire / wheel size fitment app.
It has been a bit since I been to the site but thought they did fitment to car / truck and what size tire fits a wheel size.
I also run a 235 / 75 / 15 tire on think it was a 8" wheel.
I dont want to go bigger / taller as the rear gear is tall enough at 2.75.

I think both generations of the Ford truck wheels I have are 8" wide. My old original steel wheels I think were 7.
I found the flyer for the cruise-in you were talking about previously. I wouldn't mind getting out & doing something now that my Mustang is roadworthy again, but Wilson does seem like a long ride for a burger.
John I was also thinking the same thing and more so now that Mary is on a special diet.
I may hit one of the later ones just to see what they got going on car wise.
I also see Louis posted about a BBQ / show in Pitsboro for today.
That is about the same distance, 60 miles, as Burger Boy from my house.
Again Mary cant eat that, she did rabbit food at the meeting.
Then again we need our rest for the Stray Cat show in Littleton on the 31st as that is 100 miles 1 way!
I may go to the C&C in Garner tomorrow morning at the coffee show we went to just once.
1 to see if it is still running and to see what shows up.
I did not go anywhere today, I spent some time cleaning the carport and swimming with the grandkids, and hanging out with Tom since today was his last day. I thought he was staying thru til next Friday but he said wife misses him and Kurt and he was ready to go back, come down again in a couple of months.
I know we went to that Cars & Coffee in Garner but I can't remember if it was early this year, or if it has been since last year that we went. I found the event on facebook still being advertised by the host.
