Another forum someone sold 2 manifolds with the same "corrected" letter "C" after finding out his were for the 332? More confusion, like I needed that...
It would be nice or nearly perfect if I knew where to look and for what numbers on this intact engine. Another place said on the bottom of the intake...well I can't see the bottom, and it runs. S
O , I won't try.
If you want to confirm 302 vs. 332, I think you have either get a fancy cubic inch tester or pull a head and measure the bore.
A "typical" y-block is a Ford.
These are Lincoln derived engines.
And they are HD on top of that.
I noticed in my FOMOCO Book the timing of the 2 different engines one has a pin on the Harmonic balancer for TDC. The other does not, if so the Golden Egg perhaps?
I studied the Manual more closely and found the 292HD has the TDC pin no mention of any on the 332HD or 302HD. It isn't really anything more than my curiosity as the 302HD and 332HD Timing and Dwell are both close as the Point gaps are. The seller was too young then to recall if any swap out or not ever occurred. He did say it had the 332HD in it before I bought it, so what it runs. And memories do get clouded.
Bore dia. is really (as 85e150 noted) the defining factor.
Thanks for all the help everyone.
I have seen so many similarities in the Shop Manual. and images of the 332HD. However after some still available contact with the son and seller and also Beer drinker like me he supported the Idea of the 302HD. Not the 332HD. He said his dad used to call it a 302HD. At my age of 76 now and the son being a kid of 72 we get along well. The carb filter threw me and when stepping back it has all the attributes of a 302HD 4v Carb. Things get foggy for old beer drinkers, but I will go by the vin.definition as being a 302HD. Thanks to it being deciphered here again. It verified my own research I had done prior on the net. Which also showed a 302HD. The son told me it is the same motor it came with and his father the original owner and well cared for.
I have no reason to not believe it otherwise based upon Fuel supply and filters. These engines remind me of old GM motors with a separate valley pan cover on the 60's 389's. You could wash out from beneath the the intakes on them all. This one has the governor at the Distributor as well, clearly defining it as a HD.
Ram Horn Exhaust Manifolds say it is a Y block,.chasing a fuel pump just like it has been iffy but back then we rebuilt them all, like the auto master cylinder and slaves. it is a new beast for sure and once running I'll sell it. The thing is too big but will make a great dry firewood dump truck.
My local expert is Russ Kraft with a barn or 3 full of old Ford's, he is getting on in his years now .(in his 90's). He is a purest I borrowed the shop manual from conditionally, he won't burn my house down if I return it at some point. :-) .
give az vintage parts a call, he may have a rebuild kit available. Pull the pump and look on the sides of the flange for the part number as he need that info. Had an old 56 buick we got a kit to rebuild the fuel pump and was very good quality.
Fuel pumps are on Ebay for $25 (rebuilt) . The ports were out of location but the cure was to take out the Diaphragm screws and remove the bowl, to loosen 1 center screw and rotate the ports to match the position of the original pump. It functioned just fine after doing that. I updated the Cork gasket to one with rubber impregnated Cork. (Local Auto Value store in stock) Soaked it in fuel overnight and installed it.
