Classic Diesel Designs used to offer a coolant filter set-up for our trucks -- it bolted on the alternator attachment and spliced into the heater hose coming off the water pump -- the filter is impregnated with different amounts of SCA's to stop cavitation in the cylinders
You can buy antifreeze that comes precharged with SCA mixed in all ready. Test it once a year with a test strip you can get at most auto stores. Very easy to do.
I use regular green antifreeze with the motorcraft sca additive and test it every so often. Recently had the heater hose that goes from the block to the heater core fail on me and did a quick repair on it to get back home. Going to replace them (33 year old hoses) and remembered reading about coolant filters that work off those hoses. Def like the idea of added protection from adding a filter and figured while I'm there might as well do it. Olds64, what filter housing are you running? Most likely gonna run a napa 4019 unless anybody suggests something better
I used the NAPA 4019 as well. Just visit your local hardware store and get fittings so you can install the coolant filter as a bypass, instead of in line with the heater core.

Olds64, I'm still running a factory setup but definitely agree with the theory of coolant filter and it's cheap insurance,
just wondering how often you change it and when you do change it does it look bad ??
I replaced my radiator a few years ago so at least I know that's not falling apart internally,
Initially, I installed the coolant filter inline with the heater core and the filter quickly clogged. My temperatures started shooting up and I had to change the filter after about 200 miles.
Since I installed the coolant filter as a bypass it works great. I replace the filter at least once a year (every other oil change).
