What would be the benefit of running one anyway?
If the coolant is cleaner would it cool the engine better?
Lets you change the coolant less often.
Speaking of which how often should you change the coolant?

Lots of info on this... keeps the crud in the cooling system from cavitation from tearing the sheet out of things. If you can't find any threads in this forum, there are tons in the SD forum.

The coolant additive makes grit when it's doing it's thing. If left circulating the grid is hard on all of the parts of the system.

International put a coolant filter on the engine to begin with but Ford decided saving the money of one was worth it.

I'ma do oilbypass at the same time as well.

Just gotta get that radiator so I can start on all this. Ugh. =\

Gonna do oil cooler, new radiator, oil bypass, and coolant filter all in one day.
I'm nuts!

Take it to ian's, he's somewhat near you, he'll help ya out.

I dont have much time at all honestly. I'm just waiting to go to work. i hate 2nd shift days. Just sit around waiting to go to work. so annoying.

It will probably take me 2 days to do it, but it will be worth it.

I'm really enjoying synthetic oil though, truck runs way better.

I hope to add one to mine soon. I have a Baldwin filter base ready to go...

basically the same thing as this:

Ford Super Duty Coolant Filter | Superdutypsd.com

These engines were cast in sand and thus have a lot of crap floating in the block. I already had to replace one WP, I don't want to do another for a long time.

How often you are supposed to change the coolant depends on what coolant you have in the the truck:

Green - every 30k
Gold - every 50-100k
ELC - every 300-1,000k

What are you doing to the oil cooler Talyn, just changing the O rings? I haven't read the links yet in here but the pre charged filter, I guessing, isn't used if your using pre changed anti freeze, it it? I have the dieselsite filter set up and it seems to do a good job.

Yeah. I got a leak on my oil cooler.
Just gonna do the whole thing.
Was nice that ziggy had a block sitting at RRE, I was able to look it over a bit better with the motor not in the truck.

Mine's leaking from the gasket to the motor though, not from the o-rings.
I doubt its ever been done.

I'll probably just run an oil guard one, but was trying to see if anyone had any suggestions.
I think I spent 2 months researching to figure out what bypass filter system I was going to use.
Nice thing is, the racor system is the same as the oil guard system. So I don't have to buy the big box name and I can get the same thing for cheaper.
