If you feel that you need better transmission fluid filtering, install the 2008 transmission pan and the filter that comes with it.

I'll have to check the pan and see if the truck has that upgrade already.

I read from power steering fluid? Thought PS fluid = ATF??
I'm using ATF Dexron 3 in the system, same as in the transfer gearbox .

Ford recommends MerconV/Dexron III.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic Mercon V.

Yeah it's ATF, but when it's in the steering system I refer to it as steering fluid lol. I use the Valvoline max life stuff.

No, haven't opened , or even replaced, one yet, hence the reason for the statement "I suppose they work" in the original post. Probably should replace one as it has been in service for at least 30K miles now. Guess I'll order up a replacement for it, swap them out and cut the old one open to see what (if anything) it caught.

But even if nothing is inside the filter when its opened, does that mean it wasn't working, or does that mean my power steering fluid system was clean enough to start with?
