Power steering filter?

Anyone installed an inline filter for their power steering and if so what brand/make did you go with? I've read a few posts mentioning flow restriction due to some filters so just pondering the idea at the moment is all.

I'm running a smaller pulley wheel for increased fluid flow fwiw so I figure that and a top shelf filter and I should be good to go, but again not sold on it yet.

Thanks

I think it's a good idea, but haven't done it myself.

I use one and think it is a good idea: I have pics in my album:

I'll post more on installing one a bit later.

3/8 Magnefine filter;

https://www.genosgarage.com/product/...-steering-pump

Amazon Amazon

Filtran 3/8 filter:

https://www.transmissionpartsdistrib...ower-steering/

Unfortunately, the OP removed the pictures:

The line you need to install the filter in is the rubber line that goes from the power steering assist unit on the fire wall to the plastic oil reservoir on the drivers side of the pick-up. Also, you install it so that the direction of flow is from the power steering assist unit to the reservoir.

Also doing a flush of the system is a good idea. IIRC the write up in the link below is a good one:

Yeah pretty straight forward, doubt I can screw it up lol. So the Magnafine is better than the Raybestos used in your pics?

My steering fluid/atf is still pretty new, but I'll be swapping out my used 2016 6.7 steering box for a brand new 2020 6.7 box here soon and figure it would be a great time to remove and clean the res and do a good flush as well. Lot's of good info, thank you

You are welcome.

When it comes to the filters, I have no idea which is better (or if they are any different internally). I have always liked Magnefine products, so that would be my preference. No other reason.

For nostalgia - here is one of the first posts on it (IIRC initially recommended by @Beachbumcook - from 2009):

I use these from Dieselsite on three trucks currently. I suppose they work, no issues so far from any of them.

Have you ever opened one up to see if it's actually doing anything?
