Power steering filter

I just installed a power steering filter in my '92 I6 and have not had a chance to feild test it yet. I tried to find the filter that Mustang guy moderator suggested but all I found in socal was a 5/16 tranny filter for $25. My power steering lines are 3/8 so I ended up buying some reducers which made the line too long so I put a longer hose on and looped it so that the power steering return line would not kink.
Anyone out there done this mod?

I don't have a filter on my powersteering system. I didn't know they made a dedicated powersteering filter, as I've never heard of a filter on powersteering anyway. It sure can't hurt anything though.

I guess this question is more for MustangGT, but why do we need a filter on the power steering line? I can understand about automatic trannys and engine oil, but there shouldn't be much contamination of the powersteering fluid. I could be mistaken, and I'm all for learning new things, so I'm eager to find out.

Definitely can be contamination but especially if the box or the pump blew. Then there are peices of one stuck in the other. You replace the failed unit and the shavings come back around out of the piece that was fine and that you didn't replace and destroy both the pump and the box. The filter stops the vicious cycle.

That makes sense, thanks. But any reason for a normally functioning system?
