Liftgates for pickups?

Anyone have one? What did it cost? I am looking at a used liftgate. However with my body lift and bigger tires I'll need to modify the mounting brackets so that it will work.

The one I am looking at is chain drive with a 1000 lb capacity.

Just trying to get an idea of what they cost. Haven't been able to find any online pricing.

Thanks.
Greg.

Maxon Lift makes several liftgates for pickup trucks, as does Holland Hitch and both are good quality products.

I've installed several Maxon liftgates for customers of mine on 2000 and above F350's. Installing one yourself isn't something I would recommend if you have no experience with hydraulics or air-over-hydraulic set-ups.

You have to do some research when selecting a liftgate - you don't want to over-buden the stock rear suspension of your truck. I'd suggest contacting a sales rep from a reputable company - they are more then happy to discuss issues with a person in my experience.

Regarding cost, I know that Maxon products cost more then Holland ones - but I've heard very positive reviews of Holland liftgates from other mechanics in the area.

I hope this help. Feel free to contact me if you other questions. I can field technical questions in private - would take up far too much space here in the message boards.

Hi Glenn,

Can you give me an idea of what a 1000 lb capacity lift would cost new? I am in Canada (Ottawa), so your pricing would be similar as to what I would pay here.

The truck is a F250 however I have upgraded the rear suspension and axle to equivalent F350. I am not too worried about overloading it with a liftgate.

Thanks!

Hi Greg

I will check some some dealers I know on Friday Nov 28 and see what a Holland and comparable Maxon 1000 lb capacity liftgate would cost.

I will post my findings here Friday night.

Here is some information I hope you will find helpfull.

Maxon Lift makes the Mighty Max liftgate for pickup trucks. For Fords up to model year 1987, you need part #MM-64. For Fords 1997 to present you need part #MM-60.

The MM-64 has a platform load area of 30" x 55", a bed height of 28" to 40" and a 1300 lb capacity.

The MM-60 has a platform load area of 30" x 59", a bed height of 28" to 40" and a 1300 lb load capacity.

Both cost $1090.00 in US dollars plus shipping to Canada but you could probably find a Canadian Maxon dealer at:

http://www.maxonlift.com

Ultron Lift makes the PT and PB series for pickup trucks. Depending on the size of the platform you want, prices range anywhere from $1761.00 to $1926.00 Canadian. You can spec them out at their web site:

http://www.ultronlift.com

Speaking from experience, they are both good products, although Maxon is referred to as the "Caddilac of the lift industry" and I would agree with that. Excellent product and warrenty and a huge world-wide dealer network to back it up.

I also looked into Holland Hitch for you, but they are no longer in the business of liftgates for anything other then freight trucks and trailers.

Hope this information helps,

Glenn

You might also look at Tommy Lifts. I used to install 'em in the stone age, and they were good units. Fairly inexpensive, easy to install, and simple.
