Transmission options
Just came in here but I'll be back a lot if this will start to work out since I have a lot of work on my truck coming.
I have an 1994 F150 2WD with a 4,9 straight 6 engine (I6) with a burned out automatic E 4OD transmission and I'm looking around for options to replace my transmission completely.
I have an offer for a transmission from '93 5L V8 truck with the E4OD transmission, and I wonder if this will fit my engine.
Also, is there an overview of which other transmission will fit into my truck so I can see if there's multiple options.
The reason I'm slightly reluctant ordering one asap is because I live on a small island in the Caribbean and it needs to be shipped internationally to here, as soon as it will be here there's no further support from workshops or technicians.
Parts here are a pain, I’m already trying to ship in a whole tranmission over thousands of miles.
That’s enough for me! 😅
@Mark Kovalsky may be able to confirm interchange. OP needs to hit this with the first shot.
Serial # on the photo's didn't match the tags and the part numbers on the tranny.

I hope that scammer didn't take too much from you, OP.
Just an FYI: If you can, get an E4OD that was made in 1995 or later. 1997 was apparently the best year for them. Earlier models had some nasty gremlins in them despite this transmission being based on the venerable C6 (which is so stupid-ville tough that it's a favorite for drag racers).

Thanks for the tip, I was hoping to find one of a salbage yard somewhere for a budget friendly price. The way it's looking now I might have to bite the bullet and get a refurbished one, quality wise probably a lot better but also a bit more of an investment.
A extremely large number of E4 failures are either electrical, computer, wiring (harness/plugs) based.
What kind of codes are you getting?
If you need a trans, couldn't you get one closer from Brasil, Colombia or even Mexico?
Any that bolt up to a 300/6, 302/5.0 or 351/5.8 will work physically with the correct flex plate prior to 94.
Bur first forgive if I use the incorrect term or even make mistakes in my car diagnosis, I have a very basic understanding about happens in a transmission and we have not taken it apart for a full diagnosis.
By looking as far as we went my street mechanic here told me the friction plates are burned, turning the friction part into a slipping part causing the car not shift into any gear. Which is also the main problem, it starts and runs beautifully but when one would like to drive off it refuses to get into gear.
I am not getting any codes, and if so where would I get them?
As far as new transmissions go, we have a direct shipping line with Europe and the USA. Also since our first language is Dutch and my 2'nd English, I can't see myself negotiating tranny's in Spanish or even Portuguese
Thanks for the shortlist in tranny's, this will make my search a bit easier again!
Faults are recorded in both engine controls & transmission controls as well.
The computer can be made to give up whatever faults it has stored in memory with a jumper wire or a dedicated code reader.
There is nothing worse that rebuilding/replacing a electronically controlled transmission like the E4 only to have the replacement/repaired unit do the exact same thing.
The whole cycle was 654621629626
Assuming that these are 3 digit codes that leaves me with:
654 MLP sensor not in park position
621 Shift solenoid #1 circuit failure
629 Converter clutch control circuit failure
626 Coast Clutch solenoid circuit failure E4OD
It would say that there's definitely electronic issues and also MLP sensor issues I found online describe a lot of the issues I'm having with the transmission.
I'll have to find out the other errors, thanks for teaching me about the OBD system
