I have three issues in or around the steering column:

1. Key in ignition chime - Sounds when I open the door after shutting down the engine and removing the key from the ignition. Goes off by rotating the ignition backwards a few degrees, releasing, and letting it pop back to its resting position. Been going on for a couple months.
2. ABS light always on - Was on and off for several weeks, hasn't gone off now for at least a week
3. Yesterday the cruise control stopped working.

Was thinking the ignition needs lubrication or replacement, but now thinking these may all be related via a harness or plug. Or perhaps the cruise has been programmed not to function if the airbag is defective?

EDIT: #2 is actually the airbag light.

If the ignition chime is simple let us know, mine hass always done that intermittently, just never bothered by it.

Might see if any codes related to cruise, I'd start with the BOO switch and the brake master cylinder pressure switch if none. Might be a pid to check steering wheel button function as well.
The ABS will give a code but I don't think they are necessarily stored so have to get the code while light is on. Also my son's F150 would do a pattern of blinks to indicate code as the light came on. Don't know if the super duty are similar. Edit... the blinking pattern was for the airbag light.
Also... check brake fluid level.

There is a easy little modification you can do to eliminate the door chime. I did it years ago because I didn't want the noise in the field when hunting.

If you pull the ignition cylinder out, you can put a piece of tape in the contacts to prevent the "key in ignition" chime. Under the steering column and you will see a small (about 3/16 dia) hole in the plastic under where the ignition cylinder is. Insert the key into the ignition and turn to RUN position. Use a small Allen key or small screwdriver in the hole under the column and push up while feeling around until you feel some give in the screwdriver - this will push the release button on the ignition cylinder, then pull out ignition cylinder. There is a set of contacts on the outside of the ignition cylinder that is responsible for the door chime. Put a small piece of tape in between the contacts, replace the ignition cylinder and turn the key to the LOCK position (this will reset the release button). Door locks will still work properly. I find I have to replace the tape every few years, as it does wear through.

Other than what’s been said, the ABS speed signal controls the cruise control. You should have codes.

Thanks for the replies. That was honestly more than I was expecting.

In my sleep deprived delirium (woke up at 4am to pee and couldn't go back to sleep) I wrote ABS in the #2 position instead of the actual problem being the airbag light. Editing original post next. Was going to check codes this morning, but went back to bed at 7 and woke up late for work. Doh!

My apologies for the confusion. Please carry on gentlemen.

Today I discovered that my horn also is not working. A quick internet search reveals that no horn, no cruise, and flashing air bag light points to a bad clock spring.

Here's the codes:
B1932 Air bag driver's circuit open
B1483 Brake pedal input circuit failure
B1352 Ignition key-in circuit failure

Here's the PIDs:
BOO - "OFF" when brake is not applied / "ON" when brake is applied
SCCS (speed control command switch) - "NONE" under all related operating conditions

I don't mind the chime so much when it works like it's supposed to. Why do you suppose it just started chiming after the key has already been removed? Just a coincidence it started almost the same time as the other problems?

Good news. The clock spring replacement fixed everything, even the door chime.

Dorman part #525-227 for the 2003 with cruise. No radio controls on this one. If I had to do this again I would find another manufacturer. The first clock spring clicked every time the wheel went left when rocking it back and forth. Not surprisingly the locking key/pin thingy on that one fell right out when I pulled the assembly out of its plastic bag.
