I just got my replacement clockspring shipped in today and have a question about the plastic "key" that's installed. This "key" has a pull tab/ring attached. Since I've never seen a clockspring before (haven't torn into the steering column yet), is this key to be removed after the clockspring is installed?
Based on other posts on this forum, my guess is the key is there because the clockspring is prewound and would have to be removed to function properly.
Any other tips on this procedure would be appreciated. Vehicle is a '96 B3000 SE 3.0 with cruise.
Once you position the clockspring you can pull off the yellow key. It's just to hold it in the right position so that you dont install it in the wrong position.
I just put one in my 2002 ranger about a month ago when i added factory cruise control. I have the transponder key so i had to contend with the module for that so it made it a little more difficult.
