My Truck May Have Met Its Match...

Don't know why the company has this big freakin' Toy Hauler, but my truck sure didn't like it, first, and hopefully last time hauling it.
Momentum 350, 40 feet long, 16,850 GVWR, a little less than 14K actual weight.
Booger was that it has a big 7.5 KW generator up front, combo of that and a big empty back end, made it way nose heavy.
Not sure what the pin weight is, but had my truck bouncing off the bump stops, rough roads were no fun.

Factory overloads would probably help.

I’d have figured it would have been a tri-axle at that size.

Hind sight being 20/20, you should have put some weight in the garage to balance it out.

What's he gonna put back there? He travels empty, and just delivers new trailers from manufacturer to dealer.

Airbags would have been nice to have in that situation.

Toy Haulers run pin heavy until you load the rear.

Not sure they is much that can be done except air bags.

I run about 3500 lbs pin weight in mine between the generator and fresh water right up front.

There aren't many toy haulers I'd put behind any 3/4 ton truck. Most of them are well over 2500 lbs advertised pin weight, and SEVERAL are upwards of 3k. You're solidly into 1 ton range, and better off with a dually given how nose heavy those things notoriously are.

Those Mo's are no joke... could be worse. Could be the 410TH... over 8 tons empty!

I totally agree but I do find it odd GD has a SRW F350 on their website....

I feel like their legal department should have said something? Or is it just me?

Majority of toyhaulers that are roughly 40' long, with tandem axle, should be pulled with a dually. Single rear wheel feels awful loose on the roads. I have a tandem axle fuzion, 40' long. With or without anything in the garage, and it makes the truck feel loose on the road. I traded my 350 srw in for a 350 drw, and it's night and day difference.

Outside of the suspension issues, how did the powertrain handle it?

Nothing wrong with towing with the f250 or f350 srw. As long as in the scales the trucks rear axle is under 7,999lbs you are legal and fine!

tires (factory Michelin is rated at 7500lbs), 7,999lbs rounds down to 7k. Your legal. Rear axle itself is rated for close to 10k Dana m275 or sterling 10.50 before it will even break.

I don't have any idea what "feeling loose" means to you, but I never felt anything that I would call loose, my truck with the nose heavy trailer was as stable as anything I've ever hauled, just rough over bigger bumps, but just fine otherwise.

No, zero powertrain issues, pulled it as hard and fast as I would ever want to go. Set the CC on 70-72 on the interstate and rolled on just fine.

Maybe put one of those water transport containers in the garage and fill it with 100 gallons of water?

My toy hauler is just a bumper pull but I fill up a few water jugs and put them by the cargo door, strapped down of course.

I looked at a few of them, and they've got several I'd feel comfortable pulling behind a SRW 1-ton. I'd still feel better with a dually, but I pulled our old 42' Cyclone with a SRW F350 6.0 years ago. It did it, but the dually did better.
