On my 1962 f250 4x4 if i want dump the stock steering column/ steering box thru the frame , what are my options? Doesn't have to be power, in fact prefer manual if possible. Looking for more room for exhaust and such?
You didn't mention what engine. If it's a 292 and you don't mind the original steering, then one thought would be to go with the RamHorn manifolds. They look awesome and since they point downward the exhaust pipe can run under the steering box.
1: A typical 70's and up Ford manual or power steering box mounted in front of the axel and set up for cross steer....
2: Gm or Dodge box mounted far forward on the frame and set up just the opposite of your original box... Or mount the box inside the frame and do cross steering.
I have done #2 Box outside of frame rail, connected to stock collum. Push pull drag link to a high steer arm...
I have option number 2 a gm style box with the crossover steering on my 64. However I have seen a few put the Toyota box in place of the original to keep the steering column in the original spot. Depending on tire size this could be a better option.
I did a jeep one time using ford manual rear steer box mounted inside the frame in front of the axle then tied it to front tie rod via a shorter rod that then connected to main tie rod, sort of a cross steer setup. A bracket slid over frame rail and bolted thru the frame to which you mounted the box eliminating tire clearance .It was a complete kit with bracket, all tie rods and pitman arm made for jeeps that had a weird steering with drag link, bell crank and integrated steering column/box similar to the one on my F250.I just don't know if I can source the tie rod setup for the wider dana front axle.
