Will a gearbox from a 68 mount to a steering column from a 72, and all fit in my 69? That was the only way I could get a decent red steering column and wheel.
It depends on what gearbox you have in your '69. There are 3 possibilities:
1. Manual gearbox;
2. Bendix power steering gearbox;
3. Ford (Saginaw) power steering gearbox.
Run a search on my name for information about this. This is a commmon question posed on the '61 - '66 board, and the answers apply to '65 on up.
Good luck!

Power steering or manual? If 2wd, any gearbox along the years mentioned will bolt up to frame. If converting to power steering, the issue is the height of the gearbox and length of the column and shaft.
well,depends on if u get a sagenaw box u will need a shorter column,and some modification to the frame,if u get a bendix box it will slip right in to place no problem,but the bendix box will heat up more quikly,ur choice
All the boxes mount identically to the frame. However, the Ford (Saginaw) box is taller and larger, and it interferes with the heat riser valve (if so equipped) and the driver's side FE engine perch.
The earlier FE driver's side perch extends straight out from the frame; it will need to be notched to accomodate the Ford PS box. However, the '72 and later trucks with FE motors use the swept back style of the perch. If you can obtain one, it should mount right up to the pre-drilled frame holes. (Note: the swept back perch MAY have been used earlier than '72, possibly as early as '67. I do not know when it was initiated into service.)
Check your current perch. If it sticks out straight from the frame at a 90 degree angle, you need to use the later FE perch (up to '76,the last year Ford used FE engines in trucks and cars.)
