Bendix power steering box

Hi,

I have a 69 F250 with manual steering, I'd like to switch it to power steering.
I beleive that Bendix power steering box is a straight forward swap. I hope I can find a bendix box in a fair shape. Please let me know if you guys have one that's for sale.

Thanks,

You also need the drag link, your manual one won't work!

Do a search on the power steering swap and also read the tech article. You'll need a different steering column as well as the power steering gear box.The steering column you have now with manual steering is a couple of inches longer than the one you'll need with power steering. Find the column out of a 73-77 truck with power steering.

Sorry debestuss if you use the Bendix you don't need a different column, in 67 ford used Bendix in 68 they went to their own box!

I guess there is a difference between the Bendix and the Saginaw. I'm glad you brought that up. The research says that the Saginaw is better if you have headers so I'm stuck shortening a steering column.

I have a Bendix box 69K miles from my 68CS. I went nuts ( a aircraft mechanic / machine shop person) and installed new bushings when not needed. Seal kits thru Ford $153 each, have two. The imput started to leak 8 months later ( weak area) and replaced with a Ford box which means later shorter column and pitman arm and Ford box. With bushings and reamer I have over $600 in this rebuild, Maridian Auto Parts in southern Ca (good rebuilder) wants $150 core alone. I have a tight box with almost two complete rebuild kits for $100 with shipping around $20 with two kits ( not complete less input seals) plus almost new/used HP hose. Piston bore like new, it's a simple box inside. I went with a Ford box, new hoses again, pitman arm and complete steering column replacement. A PITA as good wrecking yard parts are rare or shot. I was down for three weeks to get all parts plus later left motor perch. Private email please if intrested.

Will the manual steering draglink work with the Ford power steering boxes?

Sorry that I can't answer as I went from power Bendix to power Ford box. You have to use the pitman arm for the Ford box. Maybe someone else will chime in.

I've done both PS swaps.
The manual pitman arm '65 and '66 will not fit either the Bendix or the Saginaw (Ford) box, nor will it fit some later manual boxes.
The Bendix pitman arm will not fit anything else.
The Saginaw pitman arm will fit all Saginaw boxes to '79.
Interchangeability MAY exist between the '67 - '72 manual to Bendix. The '73 - '79 arms, both manual and power steering MAY also interchange with others.

Finally, ALL of these arms will fit all draglink posts the same. The interchangeability problems only occur in fitment to the steering gear box.
