Blend door actuators - how many up front?

Still sorting through write-ups on my 2003 EB, how many blend doors actuators are in the dash? I replaced one up front, and both in the back. The EATC now shows 2267 code, which according to the maintenance manual, reads “(RH) upper blend door failure or short.” The clicking still remains in the dash, and warm air blows to the passenger side, when cold air is set to auto (both sides).

Is there more than one blend door actuator in the dash?

If you have the dual zone (driver side / passenger side ) temp control system, then yes, there are two actuators. One high and one low. Which one did you replace ?

Yes, that does have dual climate control. I replaced the exact one behind the navigation - the same one in Fordtechmakeyouloco’s (Brian) video for the front blend door actuator.

Is the second actuator in the center console, toward the floor on the passenger side? Thank you sir.

It's at the bottom of the HVAC box just in front of the center console. You have to pull the center console out to see it or gain access to it. Can you tell if the "clicking" is located high, or low in the dash?

I think it sounded as if it was high from the dash, which was a disappointment because that was the blend door actuator I replaced (with Motorcraft) in the past 2 months. I won’t be back to the truck until Saturday, and can verify then.

Are the blend door actuators the same part number for both upper and lower? Do they differ between the “cross-shaped” and “D-shaped” shaft? I could hedge my bets and have a new actuator waiting for me when I get home so I can replace it ASAP.

Thanks for the responses!

On the front box they're the same part number. ( 1L2Z-19E616-AA ). The rear has two different part numbers (thanks Ford...)..
You may be able to better hear each one by running the temperature control in manual mode up and down, rather than in Auto.

Hopefully you are not confusing the “doors”.

There are “blend” doors that control temperature,
and
there are “mode” doors that control where the air comes out.

Replaced both upper and lower actuators. All errant clicking is gone; however, still getting the DATC code 2267, and warm air comes out of the passenger dash when cold air is commanded.

Any ideas?

You let it run through it's calibration cycle after doing the self test right ? ( Leave the key ON for at least 30 seconds after exiting self test...).

I did. I ran out of time, and dropped it off at a shop to knock out the last of the write-ups, to include the HVAC.

Not solving the problem, the technician at the shop first suspected that the GEM shows it’s from a 2001 model, and possible DATC was not available in 2001. When I drilled down more he said it was the not just the GEM showing 2001…… I didn’t buy that. When I’ve hooked up my Blue Driver, it immediately recognizes the truck as a 2003.

I’ll be running through some tests with ForScan this morning and see what I can find out. I’m a novice with ForScan, but I’ll have one of my brothers on the line (same guy that assisted with the engine swap) provide some support.

A little ForScan analysis, and all modules on the Expy are from 2003. It doesn’t even have a GEM (like my ‘01 Super Duty…).

The next steps would be to look into my OEM maintenance manuals to see what I can come up with to try and solve the warm air blowing from the passenger side.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Installed the CORRECT blend door actuator for the upper dash. I’m getting pretty good at pulling apart the dash - only took about 30 minutes start to finish. Ford part number (DATC) was 1L2Z-19E616-AA. All HVAC systems in the truck work as designed now.
