my 2004 f150 only blows out the vents, not under warranty, dealer says
blend door is bad,$750 plus labor, can someone tell me how bad it is to do this
myself,i am a diesel mechanic by trade on kenworth and peterbilts but have
never tore the dash apart in my ford, thanks;vern
Labor at our dealership is 6 hours to R&R dash. It's not the blend door, the foam insulation on the door peels off and lodges itself between the door and the case. You need to take the dash out to gain access to the blend door however. I've had 3 of these dashes out(can do it now in about 3 hours....in and out), and countless more refuse the fix and leave. Also, make sure your blend door motor works. I've had doors jam and take out the blend door motor as well...
Also, $750?? That has to be for the whole heater case(if there is no labor involved). All we've been doing is pulling the dash and peeling the foam off that was loose. The doors will leak very little inside the heater case, but you won't even notice it out of your vents or def. But it's better then spending $$$ on a door that could possibly do the same thing agian.
My 05 was doing the same thing I just pulled the control motor off and cycled the doors by hand a few times put the motor back on no problems since. you will see the motor above the accelerator to the right can't remember how many bolts or screws held it on but it took me less than hour to fix it.
thanks wilber15 and seasprite,i stand corrected, the whole job was 750 most of which is labor,i think i'll get my feet wet on sat with seasprites idea
cause it's getting chilli here in mich
later;vern
