Went out to the truck yesterday morning before the heat set in. Started it up and noticed the "brake" light on. Of course, the "check engine" light was on as well. I pulled the lever to release the parking brake, but it was already released. So I don't know what the issue is. The last time I started it, I put it in reverse and then drive to check to see if it would move under its own power and it did. it stopped with no problem, so I am at a loss.

The parking brake light is a common issue. Lots of reasons why it stays on. ford-trucks.com is a forum which has numerous threads on the subject. Mine has been on for years.
My app temp shows 62 with sun. My car says 61. I see a bank of low fog.
Jim, Does it still move on its own? It's really hard to say about the brakes, I would check the brake fluid first off. Have you got it licensed yet? Is there a Brakes Plus down there? There is a reason it was so inexpensive, kind of a mechanics special. It can all be fixed but it might cost a bit, if you can find a good mechanic at a reasonable price you will still be money ahead, I believe.
The 1st thing is to get a code reader which reads brake codes. Not all code readers do that. Then trouble shoot all the mechanics. Sensors, master cylinder, lines, etc. The most common issue is a sensor. Or the circuit board.
I knew going in that it would cost money. The PO told me it would be about 900 in back registration. I bought it anyway. However, it would have been $1,900 if I had not applied for disabled plates. He stated the AC blew cold, but it doesn't. So, there is no reason to believe anything else he stated. No, I have not got it legal yet. That takes money. Money, I don't have at the moment. I am working on that. An American Legion Post in the area is going to help me but cannot do so until after the 8th of this month. I am praying the issue with the engine running rough is indeed sparkplugs, and/or coil packs. I do have a mechanic I trust, but he is on the other side of town. I will have to wait for the VA to install the scooter hoist before going over to see him. I applied for one of those high interest credit ards offered to people with bad credit. You know, the ones where you pay them an annual fee, and a monthly fee for the privilege to use their card. They approved me for $700, but of course, their annual fee is $175 so I can only use $525. If I can get this truck to pass smog without using the card, I will cancel it. I don't want a card with 36% interest on top of their annual fee and monthly fee. To be fair, they don't charge a monthly fee the first year, but that is because their annual fee for the first year is $175. Then it goes down to $49 a year. So, I have until July of next year to use it and then pay it off so I can cancel it. As for fixing the brake light, I think I piece of black electrical tape will do just fine.
The DMV fees will be paid tomorrow! I got a call today from the Central Valley Vets organization asking me how much the fees were. I told him $688, but I would be going tomorrow to pay $188. He said he would give me a check made out to the DMV for $500! I thanked him and hung up. So that takes care of that obstacle. He called about an hour later saying the check was at the VA hospital waiting for me. I thanked him again and told him I would be by in the morning to pick it up. God is good! Now, I just need word from Geico that they will approve me, and then take the truck to my mechanic to fix the engine so it will pass smog. The vendor who will install the scooter lift also called this morning and asked me questions about the truck and if I wanted a bed lift or hitch lift. I told her bed lift so I could keep the hitch free. She said she will put in the PO order and wait for the VA to approve it. So that is happening. I am not feeling so down now. Looks like everything is falling into place.
