If you have p0262, p0271, p0277, p0280 or any of the other injector codes and recently had your injectors replaced, find out if they are Pure Power Technologies injectors. The attached pics are my 5000 mile injectors. After 2 FICM's and a injector harness I ran out solutions and decided to look at the new injectors. I would have never guessed what I found. The wires insulation was cracking and I could easily strip the wires with my fingers. Unfortunately, the shop that installed them got an EPA fine and went out of business. I called and emailed Pure Power Technologies and got crickets. So because of poor quality injectors that I already paid for I'm out 2 FICM's, Injector wire harness and 8 new injectors.
As posted on the ORG, where did you buy these injectors from?
Point being that you can buy anything labeled one way, but it may not actually be what the advertising states it is ............
Not enough to choose reputable products, but you have to purchase from reputable shops/suppliers.
Also, those are remanufactured not new. Laser inscribed right on the core. So the core is a reman Pure Power core but that does not guarantee Pure Power remanufactured the rest of the injector. Did you get them directly from them?
With a post like this, people who have bought these injectors will probably be curious enough to open a valve cover and look around, as paranoid as many 6.0 owners are in there newer to middle years of ownership. Five thousand miles usually is not along time. The white plastic of the solenoids are not discolored.
The shop was Baillie Diesel in Nixa MO. They had a decent reputation. The injectors toasted the first 2 FICM's. I oscoped the output during buzz test to confirm what was going on with the second FICM. I never expected my brand new injectors had a problem but I did ohm check them and they were all good. Sometimes all the injectors would actuate on buzz test and sometimes not. Apparently on starting, one would short out intermittently. There where 2 different coil packs on the set of injectors. 5 had the cheap insulation with brighter color and 3 were good wires with a duller color. All where PP remanufactured. Yes I posted on multiple forums out of frustration with zero response from Pure Power. When I called PP the guy that answered the phone barely let me finish my explanation and forwarded me to an ext where I had to leave a message. It seemed to me that he had heard this situation before.
You should do more than just phone contact, and especially don't leave it only on an answering system ............. Email them and include the pictures. I included the email address on the Org forum. A "switchboard" person / receptionist isn't going to know enough or care enough to use as an indicator on what has been seen before.
If they showed any indifference, I would bet it is because you should first go through the place where they were purchased from (and I don't mean the repair shop, I mean where the injectors came from). May not be possible though.
As far as the shop goes, it seems from your posts that they were the ones that obtained the injectors - is this the case? You are not familiar with where they came from?
Lastly - I am certainly curious as to how these failures actually "toasted" two FICMs?
I replied to most of your post on powerstroke.org. As far as the toasted FICM. My original FICM wouldnt even start the truck. Got a replacement from circuit medics and truck started fine. Then noticed it still didn't sound right. Cyl 8 was dead. So I oscoped the buzz test on all the injector connectors while unplugged, since I didn't want to poke holes in my wires. Attached pics show what I found. All the other cyl's looked like 5. While cly 8 was still outputting something I would bet if I connected it to the injector it would have been just about flat lined as I've seen MOSFET's that can still look like they function but wont handle a load after being damaged. Circuit medics agreed with me and sent another FICM overnight. Since I had my doubts about circuit medics sending me a bad FICM and I was unable to find anything that told me I had actually found the problem, I tore into valve covers to look at the injectors. Bingo. Found the problem. With the new injectors and second FICM the truck actually runs better then it did coming from the last shop.
Since you just bought injectors from Injectors Direct, if you bought the new OEM injectors, they were from Pure Power (a good thing IMO). Injectors Direct has confirmed this. Remanned ones probably are not remanned by Pure Power (IMO not the best answer).
Depending on the time frame, you might check with your credit card issuing co and see is they have extended coverage or can do a chargeback.
Then I would type and print a letter. Mail it to Pure Power Technologies with registered service. That will quite a lot of times get some attention.
I posted this yesterday on the Org and decided to add it here - simply for posterity.
Pure Power AND Injectors Direct both have returned my emails. I had a very good phone call with Injectors Direct and a good email exchange with Pure Power. Neither of them have seen this issue before (with authentic Pure Power injectors or injectors remanned by pure Power). Injectors Direct confirmed that companies do advertise Pure Power Remans, that were not remanufactured by Pure Power (although originally they were Pure Power injectors), so who knows what was installed in the OPs case. After the discussion with Injectors Direct, I am very much planning on going with new Pure Power injectors when the time comes. Injectors Direct has a very good price on them.
Also, Pure Power has the links to all these threads.
