I've had a #7 GP code for a while, so yesterday I replaced all 4 glow plus and re-sealed the injectors on the passenger bank(resealed the drivers bank last year when I replaced #6 injector). Upon removal of the injectors I noticed that 3 of them were discolored up to the first o-ring. I've had injectors out of numerous trucks and never noticed discoloration like this. Could it have been from the injectors being undertorqued? I wasn't thinking and didn't check the bolts before pulling them, but on assembly I found the inner hold down bolts were only at about 5 ftlbs, it took about 50-80 degrees to get them tightened up.
Here are some pics of the injectors
oddly enough the one clean one actually had the bottom fuel o-ring torn
I also checked compression while I had the plugs out, I'd say its nice and healthy at 140k. This was after a few pics, it was at just over 450.
I wouldn't say the truck is quieter now, but it definately idles smoother, feels WAY more responsive, the check engine light is off, and hopefully(fingers crossed) my oil consumption goes down a bit.
So after all that, has anyone else experienced slightly discolored injectors like that?
