Removing HPOP and had the hardest ebp tube fittings. To remove, never got them loose. Used PB Blaster 3 times let soak 2 or more hours total, then some heat 3 times. Never got it but I broke EBP trying to get it off before trying again. I hope not to buy another so what do I do?
I already did Turbo pedestal delete and welded valve on Turbo open, have resistor on plug for pedestal sensor.
What else does it do? Help set codes for other possible issues, something else? I'm no expert, but I haven't see anyone say what the other things it does are. Just curious.
I have been thinking about this question as well. Forewarning, I’m still new to these trucks. I’ve seen a bunch of people say that cleaning their EBP tube out helped the truck run and got better mileage and such. But I read through the thread in this link the other day and it seems to suggest otherwise??
In my years or messing with the 7.3s I've seen that some pcm's use and and some use a inferred ebp pressure. Some tuners use you and some don't. Not real sure the rhyme or reason but who knows.
In addition to what Leonard posted above, please see the information below regarding the EBPS which I took directly from the PC/ED volume of the Ford Service Manual.
It talks about the "primary function" to measure exhaust pressure for the pcm to control the epr when needed. I couldn't find anything else other than setting codes such as a possible over boost.
Here’s my theory about the increased MPG after cleaning EBP tube- When the tube gets clogged enough to give incorrect readings the PCM could give a command to partially close the EBPV creating a condition for lowered MPG which is then resolved by cleaning?
Mine was completely clogged and not functioning, cleaned and replaced the sensor. Noticed zero difference, granted I did not have the physical valve anymore it was removed for an exhaust brake before I bought it.
I personally would keep the sensor,
A I don't know what all it does.
B you can check exhaust pressure on the scanner if ever needed.
