I bought some pants. Dickies. Regular, khaki, pants. $13.63. You only see weird prices like that on Amazon. I can remember when the minimum wage was around $3. There were no $3 pants back then. In today's out of control economy, where eggs cost more than steak, pants have gone down. I bought 4 pairs. Those should last for the rest of my life.
In the old days, in San Francisco, there were stores that sold work clothes. What I recall was that they used to have these really long, unfinished pants. Department stores sold slacks like that also. Unfinished. Some stores offered free tailoring. Some charged for tailoring. Most neighborhoods had a tailor shop or dry cleaner. I hemmed my own pants. I didn't want to come back to the store, drop them off somewhere else, or otherwise wait a week. I just couldn't understand why it took a week, for less than 15 minutes of work. Cut off the excess. Sew it up.
Maybe it was growing up poor. Heck, I'm still poor. Or it was a different point in time. Back in those days, there was a DIY culture. People knew how to sew a button, cook a meal, change oil, change a tire, unclog a toilet, change a lightbulb, paint a wall, and we didn't have smartphones.
While I've been working enough overtime to push me into the next tax bracket, my brother in law has been catching the limit on crab. He's been giving them away, a half dozen at a time, to everybody. the dungeness limit is 10. You can also take up 35 of the rock crab. Since The Ex was still hanging around, I took her down the pier. Her first time. She didn't know that it was as easy as dropping a net, and pulling it back up. We filled up 2 buckets in a few hours. Then spent the rest of the afternoon driving around to give away those crabs to her friends and family. Weird. Shellfish is not Kosher. But they all accepted. Mostly dropped jaws of shock and amazement, when you open the truck to show them buckets full of live crabs, and ask them to take as much as they want. I guess breaking the Kosher dietary rules is allowed when it comes to shellfish, and Chinese food. You would be surprised at how many people go out for dim sum after Temple. They will atone for their sins later.
