Happy day of the fool! Interesting how I was aware that today was the first of April, but didn't get the hint until Tim Young reminded me. LOL Thanks Tim. Anyway, welcome to the best month of the year because I was born in this month. HA!
The ex thought that it was crazy to have a pot only for cooking ramen. Until today, when she found out that it was "a thing" for thousands of years. She bought one from a very expensive store. They're also sold on Amazon. Mine came from Daiso.
Happy two Toyotas for Tuesday Nor Cal. I received good news from Geico yesterday. They totaled the Charger and will give me a little over $23,000. After they pay off the car loan at Chase I will have $1,730 left to buy a vehicle. Not much I know, but better than nothing. I checked Craigslist for Ford Rangers but couldn't find anything that cheap. Which in this day and age is not surprising. So, I looked for Toyota Tacoma's instead. I found a listing for one about a mile from here. It says 2005 Toyota Tacoma, but the picture and description says 2004 Toyota Tundra Limited. Has 159,000 miles runs and drives and has leather interior. It is the double cab with 4 doors. It is only $1,000. According to the listing it was posted 2 days ago. It is dark grey with a tan leather interior. I'm wondering why it is so cheap? Maybe back taxes? Anyway, I figure it won't hurt to check it out. Only way to contact the lady is through email so I sent her one last night. Hopefully she will respond today. Might be a day or two before I get the money from Geico, but I don't want this opportunity to slip away if I can help it. The lady states she is selling her son's truck because he went off to college. She also states that they had to replace the motor with a refurbished one awhile ago due to it locking up after the water pump failed.
I'll be getting a ride to the body shop today to get my personal belongings out of the Charger, then tomorrow Geico will tow it away to their salvage yard. Sometime this week, they will pay Chase, and give me the remainder. If the lady responds that it is still available, I will set up a time to go over and see it. If it turns out to be what she says, I'll give her a small deposit to hold it until I get the money from Geico. If not, I'll keep the $1,700 and just add the $400 monthly payment I would have made to the bank to it until I get enough to get a decent transportation vehicle. This Tundra would be great for hauling the grand kids around in since it is a full size pick up. But we shall see.
Okay, so in order to adhere to the old adage that it doesn't exist without pictures, here you go. The first three are from the Craigslist ad, the remainder are what the seller sent me after I told her I wanted to buy it.
The seller said we had to go through eBay motors in order to do the transaction. I have no problem with that, since I have read all the guidelines and instructions. I had to come up with $1,000 in American Express gift cards, then send them to eBay motors for verification. Once verified they will ship the truck to me within 1-3 days. The truck and all paperwork are already in their warehouse. Once the truck arrives, I have five days to inspect it to make sure it is as the seller described. I am attaching these photos so you can see the condition it is in. I think this is a smoking hot deal for this truck and believe 100% that it was only made possible by a miracle of God. The seller lives in Louisianna and told me that her son of 26 years died two months ago in a bike accident, and she and her husband cannot bear to look at the truck due to the bad memories they get. In the CL ad, she stated he went off to college. I suspect she did not want to mention he died in the ad.
According to eBay Motors, they do not list a vehicle for sale until the vehicle and all paperwork are in their possession. They also have mechanics who go over the vehicle to verify what the seller states about the condition of the vehicle is true. I feel very confident about this transaction and have just now sent them proof of the six Amex cards I bought to pay for this truck. My insurance check should be here within 1-3 days also, which would be great if they both arrived the same day. I will use that to get the smog check, title transferred, and registration paid. The timing of all of this is another reason I truly believe that God is responsible for me getting this truck.
What's the shipping cost on that truck? I would think that would be quite a bit with fuel prices where they are.
I had the old "have the well guy over and see what's wrong" morning. I noticed my tanks of water are not replenishing and it looks like the pump is failing, a hundred feet down. I just hope he can come out soon and pull the old one out and stuff a new one down the hole.
Some of you know I'm in the Casa Loma Volunteer Fire Dept. We had a pump fail on one of our Brush Rigs and so I passed the pump on to my machinist buddy Greg. He was at one of the GTG's with his g/f Michelle. Anyway, he's tearing the pump down and is going to 3D machine a housing out of billet aluminum as well as do any bore cleanup and bushings to get the pump back in action. It's good to know very capable people!
If I were to haul a car from Lafyette, LA to Fresno, it would be pretty close to $2k. And it would take me 60 hours. 30 to get there, and then another 30 to get back. Actually, it would cost a bit more, as the return trip would have a four-thousand-pound truck on the trailer. The shipping is free to me, as the seller pays for it. However, I just received word from eBay that the seller did not pay enough for insurance, as they claim it was undervalued. Well, yeah, I checked Autotrader prices yesterday, and the lowest priced 2004 Tundra I could find was over $13k. Most were over $20k. Only one of them was a double cab, but still, that one was an SR5, not a limited, and it is the one that was $13k. They want me to pay a $1,500 refundable deposit for the insurance on it during the five days it is here for inspection, and the transport trip here. I told them to give me the VIN so I can add it to my current insurance policy. They have not replied back yet. I see no reason to give them $1,500 for a three-day trip. I say three, because they estimate 1-3 days, and according to them, there are two other vehicles on the transport truck, so maybe they are dropped off before me, or after me, I don't know since I don't know where they are going. In any case, I know I will get the $1,500 back after the truck is delievered and the inspection goes well, but I need to "have" the money. If they insist on doing it that way, then they will just have to wait until my insurance company pays me the $2,124 for the total loss. I'm going to contact Geico and find out if I were to add full coverage to the Tundra would it cover the truck being transported out here or not. I see no reason why it wouldn't, but I just want to double check.
