Im looking at some Mickey Thompson Baja Claw radials, 33x12.5. They look very aggressive for off road, wheather it be mud or rock. Does anyone know about these tires. Any info at all would be great.
Thanks
I own a set of MTZs on my F 350 and they are SWEET off road, they clean out at low RPMs and can for sure hold there own, tread life isnt the best, but it sure beats being stuck all the time. Also nice that they can go either direction, so if you ever have to back out of a sticky situation your not F'ed.
I've never seen the mud grapplers in action personaly, but I used to think they would pull about as good as a decent M/T, but from what i hear they suck. Good for mall crawlers, but not the tire I'd choose for a street driven truck anyway.
My buddy has a set on his Avalanche, they wear out FAST, hes wearing through them about 2 times faster than my MTZs, there ok off road, his 5.3 just doesn't have the power to turn them. The one time i saw him try to run real grease stuff they just balled up and wouldn't clean out, it could have been his lack of power though.
optimal cleaning happens at over 75 mph wheel speed. Most mud drag trucks want to have 90 mph wheelspeed when leaving the pit. (thanks to monsterbaby for that one)
> the most streetable mud tire on the market today
Boggers followed by Ground Hawgs. Too me, every mud tire is streetable, the only two questions I usually have is
1) will it fit without breaking something
2) can I afford to buy it
I would run 33x14x16 boggers on my B2 right now if I didn't have to worry about #1 and #2
That being said, I looked for the most aggressive tire I could use off road and towing in a small size and settled on the Maxxis Bighorn. I would have loved a Ground Hawg, they just don't make small radials. I did have SSRs before and they were on my short list.
Ive took George to high 2nd gear in "da chit" but the speedo isnt something I pay much attention to. Under normal driving conditions 2nd is good until 50mph but in mud im sure its higher.
