I agree with knobby. The choice is personal preference. I have owned 40" hawgs, 39.5" Swampers , 36" buckshots, 35" Bfg mud, ect ect

one of the things I have found as being a contributing factor is vehicle weight. I was happy with the hawgs on my 7000lb truck for wear and wheeling. Although werent happy with them on the street . I am semi happy with the swampers in wheeling but they street better and wear terribly. On the heavier vehicles I think that unless your doing a lot of rock crawling go for a harder tread compound so they will last a little while. If your mainly driving on the street with only a little wheeling, then you need to look at it from the streetable side. I like the bfg's for that.

for an affordable street driveable quiet tire and goot mud performance you have to look at some of the unsuspected brands. i worked in a tire shop for a while and learned this.

dunlop mud rovers- good mud tires wears well on teh street about 50,000 and works well in the mud ive tested them

bridgestone dueller mt's- wears a little quicker on teh road maybe 35-40 thousand miles and works just as good in the mud

i always look at thigns from a cost point of view, i have a cheap truck i dont want realyl expencive tires. if you want to go expencive than i guess you shoudl to with thornbirds or somethign i dotn knwo i never got into any expencive mud trucks and tried it.

BFG MT's are excelent street tires, but you do need alot of power to keep them clean in the mud.

It's like everything, there is a median.....No matter what you buy your going to wish you had a little more mud tire when your off the path and a little more street worthy tire when some *** in an import cuts you off......One thing to add, chics dig vibration which is supplied through big *** tires......just a thought....

I like the way you think! Besides, its true.

Anyways, thats the whole problem with this thread, a "streetable mud tire" is an oxy-moron. The better a tire is off road the worse it is on road. You've just got to decide which is more important to you. I've got two sets of tires. Boggers (which can't be beat) for off-road duty, and mild mannered ( I just crack myself up) bias Super Swampers for on road duty. Yea, that may sound a bit silly, but as good as Boggers are on road you have NO idea how much 44" Boggers suck on road. The Swampers are like all terrains by comparison.

I Have a set of 35" BFG MUD-TERRAINS on my Bronco. I think they are one of the best tires I have ever owned. I've only put 2,000 miles on them but they seem to be wearing pretty good.

The only thing I don't like about them is the sidewalls. Like someone stated before, the sidewall is not that tough. ON more than one occasion I have had cactus needles make small pin-holes in my tires. Luckily, my local tire shop I bought them from replaced both the tires that this happened to for free.

Also these tires do really good in the mud, and also in the loose sand.

I just put a set of 35" BFG/MT on my 78 F150 and I really like them. They're a little noisy on the road, but not horrible.

The tires I had on there are 31" Widetrack Radial Baha, and those things hooked up like mad! Even with a mini-spooled rear end, i had a hard time doing donuts in the grass. They're really quiet on the road as well.

Damn typos. What it should read is "but as good as Boggers are OFF road you have no idea how much 44" Boggers suck on road".

Geez, I'm really starting to lose it...

I think its the computer virus Ryan sent me

The SSR is a radial they are probably one of the best dual purposre tire also the new swamper trxus mt is also a very good dual purpose tire it has tighter grooves than the ssr and still has the three stage lug (tsl) design.
