Just blew it my passenger mirror I can try to get a junkyard replacement or a pair of the box style on Amazon. Cold it be possible to make my own 12v system with relays, mirror switch and convert to the power rotor style ? My truck is a xl vs tracking down the wire harness etc.
I put 17+ style mirrors on mine. There power hear market lights puddle lights the whole nine yards. My truck was also a xl and I added power doors and the mirrors at the same time. It wouldn't be hard to add power mirrors. Doesn't require any relays. Just some wire and a fuse pretty much.
I put 2008+ mirrors on my truck, but if I could do it over again I would definitely go with 2017+ mirrors like Tpayne621 and many others have. I still might swap out the 2008, but I'm stubborn at times.
@Shovelheadrob has some really nice power-everything mirrors that he wired up himself.
Yeah, I got mine from 1AAuto, but one of them no longer powerfolds......haven't had the inclination to investigate yet, might just be a bad connection (hoping...) otherwise they're great.

I got OEM Ford take offs (From a '14 model) that was heading to become a motorhome.
Installed them onto my L99 XLT that HAD power mirrors. I wired the running lights and signals as well as the heat but haven't hooked up the heat yet.
It seems that everytime something new ('17-up mirrors) that lots of folks jump on that band wagon.
IMHO while the '17 up units might have a couple more features over the '08-'16s I believe they have a larger glass surface and to me thats key.

This may be the case regarding the bandwagon, although I have always been someone that takes the path less traveled and evaluate each and every decision before moving forward on it when it comes to upgrades for the truck. Frankly, I don't give a damn if 99 out of 100 people prefer something different than I do because I have never been big on having the latest and greatest thing.
Your right too, the 2008 style mirror does have a larger top mirror surface. Although, the 2017 style has a larger lower mirror (convex) surface which allows for a much broader view of the blind spot. I am happy with the 2008 mirrors and installed them prior to 2017, so there was really no alternative. I would like to have the larger convex mirror and a more broad view of the blind spot and adjacent lane than the larger mirror which I use for backing up the 5th wheel. In which case I am normally looking at the lower end of that large mirror and at the tires or the bumper of the 5th wheel. Really it comes down to the owner and their preferences and I am glad you have found a solution that works well for you.
FTE'r Rot Box 2 had a good thread a little while back about his mirror upgrade choices. Here is the link to that thread if you or anyone cares to read about the various opinions and thoughts on mirror upgrades: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post20428761
Thank You for the replies. Somehow the mirror is still attached lol. Found a junkyard one to swap in just have to go get it. This will let me take my time and choose a set that I’ll be hopefully happy with long term instead of rushing around.
The thing that makes you get things done = ROUNDTUIT. I lost mine, but when I find it again, I have a set of OEM 2012 takeoffs.
Like Sous, I like the idea of the larger lower convex mirror space in the '17s. But dangit... the '08-16s already have such a larger-than-original lower convex mirror, I believe I'll be quite satisfied without selling my uninstalled 12's jumping to the 17's. Besides, I paid lots for the 12's when I got them because the aftermarket supply had not yet been well-established (prices had not yet dropped).

Oh dear. No activity whatsoever or are there weird noises?
It happened a couple of months ago originally, I pulled the drivers door card, checked all connections (there was a tiny bit of corrosion on one pin of one connector) put everything back together and it all worked fine again, I'm guessing (hoping) that it's a connector issue but until I get home from our Christmas holidays I just can't be asked to look. I did try them again a week ago & the driver side would just move in a small amount each time until it was completely folded but wouldn't go back out, so I manually unfolded it & left it at that. That to me confirms that the motor is good, the switch is common to both mirrors (I did swap connections to see if the fault followed, but they both started working again then...) so that only leaves a bad connection. The weather here has been atrocious so I'm waiting until I can get it under cover.
I have been dying to interject the option of true West Coast style mirrors. I am seriously considering them as a replacement option. Our vintage f650s and 750s often had them (as a stock option?), and I have seen more than one 450/550 with them on. I even have those little cover plates I picked up nearly 10 years ago by chance. They are a slam dunk on side viewing, but do have their disadvantages. Some of those disadvantages can be minimized by the "junior" style.
