Hey everyone! Quick question and I’m sorry in advance if I’m beating a dead horse—My mirrors suck they are broken and it’s time to replace them. I know you can upgrade to a later mirror but I don’t want to cut and splice wires all that bad…. Is there a plug and play option for the later style mirrors? Amazon mirrors look tempting.
Thanks for any advice.
Andrew
Edit: I just want them to be powered I don’t need the signals or heat.
A lot of the mirror "upgrades" come with plug and play connectors for the dinosaur trucks to be modernized. For example, I bought the 2008 style mirrors pictured below for $127 and they came with adapters so there was no cutting, splicing or figuring out the wires.
If I were to do it all over again, I would go with the 2017+ (I think) tow mirrors as seen in the link and image below.
I believe @AuF250 who turned me on to these mirrors specifically after I saw that he had installed them. In my opinion, the 2017+ mirrors are superior in functional design and aesthetics to the 2008 mirrors.
Those 2017 mirrors are the ones we bought. IIRC SSJ had a write up on how he wired them. The first box we received one of the main mirrors was loose but the replacements looks okay.
+2 for 1A Auto. The tow mirrors I got from Amazon for my 01 are now rusty pieces of crap. The mirrors I got from 1A for my 99 are doing great after a year.
Even the OEM ones jiggle as time goes on. I replaced mine as they started to droop and the down angle of the arms (more on the driver's side than the passenger's) was driving me crazy.
I got some 03-07 style lights (with heat and signals) that were plug-and-play and had no issues with them for the few years I had them before my truck was totaled. They looked OEM and were as good as the OEM mirrors I replaced as far as fitment, appearance, and quality from what I could see. I'm not sure if the internals were as beefy but I never had an issue with anything electrical on them either.
One of the mirrors was damaged in shipping and 1A sent me a replacement immediately without any fuss.
If you want guaranteed OEM quality and specs then check if TYC makes any. They are some of the best 3rd party OEM suppliers out there IMO. The only problem is that they only do OEM-spec stuff so you won't be able to get a different style of mirrors that are plug-and-play like 1A has.
Bought some 17+ mirrors off Amazon similar to what Sous posted. I Love them and wish I would've done it sooner. My old mirrors rattled and shook like other have said.
The listing for the ones I bough showed that they came with adapters, but they didn't end up coming with any. Not sure if that was an oversight by the company or false advertising. I ended up just using some of these type of connecters (
) and then swapped the 3 power mirror wires around until they worked correctly. I didn't hook up the mirror heat yet, as my truck didn't originally come with that option.
No more shake or rattles and I think they look great!
@Ford_Rush , are you able to provide the exact ad/listing for the 2017+ mirrors you purchased if it is different than the ad/listing I posted above? Sometimes the seller of the mirror makes a difference when purchasing parts such as mirrors.
Thank you for posting the picture too! They look really nice and only solidify my thoughts on going with a 2017+ version soon.

Also, your truck looks really nice.
Thanks Sous, same setup as your truck right, SCSB, and same color? I love the way the mirrors tie in with the body lines etc.
Here's the link the exact mirrors that I got. I contacted Akkon about the missing connector adapter and they replied fairly quickly. They wanted "pictures of the issue" but I ended up not following through because I got too impatient and wanted them on and working.
Only possible issue is a review on Amazon where someone wired the mirror heat into the factory constant on and it warped the glass. My plan has been to get a timed switch once I get around it.

Yes sir, same setup as my truck! Your picture gave me a good glimpse into what my truck would look like with the 2017+ mirrors.
Thanks for posting the link, we do appreciate it!
EDIT: @Ford_Rush , the link takes me to my orders page on Amazon. Can you please post a link to the ad/listing page. Sorry for the hassle sir.

Do the mirrors have the turn signals and adjacent sensors on the mirror surface like the AERDM units Sous linked? Do the mirror surfaces vibrate driving down the road? I am wanting these mirrors for the Excursion and have the AERDM 08 style with 17 side lights on my F350 and like them. Also, do yours have the bottom puddle lights?
