Since we're now poking... Lets poke a little at the Duramax.
Enjoy...
Well. This is about wht I don’t bother looking at anything GM; but that is just me, Pretty much the way I got treated way back in 1983 and I have never looked at one since.
But, to each their own.

Sorry couldn't help it...
If there's.....
OR
You are going to have problems....
But SERIOUSLY....
And for you ladies that are here, the men come with their OWN SET OF PROBLEMS... because YOU have to put up with us -- I know, because I have an AWESOME wife who still loves me!
I'm not sure Ford cares a whole lot more. Though they might not give the runaround as much. They'll just be quicker to get to the part where the owner foots the bill.

Scenario:
Chevy Silverado HD Duramax is towed into the local Chevy dealer because the customer reported the engine lost power and vehicle is still within drivetrain warranty. Tech identifies DEF in fuel system and the entire Denso HP4 system needs to be replaced. What course of action do you think GM will take?

According to the guy in the video, they replace a couple injectors and send it back on the road claiming it's fixed. They don't determine HPFP failure until the the truck is out of warranty.
Granted, that's one data point, but he did have his truck at multiple dealers trying to get it fixed.
Disaster prevention kit is $450, if the pump actually fails it costs ~$1000 to replace. Whether or not it fails is TBD. $1450 to replace the pump (including the DPK cost) if you can do the work yourself, even cheaper. Not much different than owning a 7.3 that has an hpop failure.
I did the kit when my diesel guy said $500 for the kit and $1000 for a new pump if it dynamites, w/o the kit $10000 or more to repair. I asked if he had one on his truck and he does, I'm pretty good at math and it was obvious to me. Kind of like buying insurance, you have it it you need it and hope you never do.
I just got the bad news yesterday that my CP4 has sent metal bits through the whole fuel system. This is insane, I had no idea that I could have such a big repair bill for no reason. They say contaminated fuel, but it isn't water, so what is it? Now that diesel in about $2.00 more than gas, I wish I had bought a gas burner. Ford and the other members of big three should be ashamed for building something so fragile and then calling it "Super Duty".

DEF, gasoline, algae, dirty fuel……….could be anything. Did you watch them take the sample? Ask to see sample they took and the analysis of it.

Sorry to hear about your bad news... What year and how many miles?
I have the Cp4 kit but probably need to upgrade to the S&S Gen 2.1.
Another advantage to deleting your emissions is no risk of DEF fluid contaminating the fuel tank.

We are sorry hear the bad news.
there is so many factors on things that blow up the CP4 that every precuation is worth taking. example...after getting fuel I noticed my egt was a few hundred degrees higher than normal. I quickly pulled over and did a fuel flash test to see if there was any gas in the deisel I bought....my test was ok.
a handful of us have been high advocates of folks getting gen2 DPK kits installed.
in your case...as mentioned...some insurance companies cover this under comprehensive policy. if the dealer ship is saying your fuel is contaminated....let them put that in writing and send the document to you insurance .

As to DEF, it's the same as putting gasoline in a diesel truck -- owner error. That's not a design fault.
