I am in a German automobile club (ADAC) and have requested a spare part, I have given them these numbers (6.4 starter).
There is a theoretical possibility that I could get a spare part sent, but that would take several days.
As soon as I get a new starter (I doubt they can get me one) I will disassemble the currently installed starter at home to find the cause of the fault. I think it must be 100% the starter, as the gear is spinning , so other sources of issue such as the ignition switch should be ruled out.
Yeah, I'd do a clean and oil to see how it goes. But I would not necessarily do that in the middle of the trip if you can get it to work enough to keep going.
The OE starter is SA1178/7C3Z11002B from a Ford dealer and the price is over $320. The reman starters from a Ford dealer, SA1013RM, are just over $260 discounted. Of course, that's todays prices.
The OE starter I just installed is part # 7C2Z-11002-A. It was on sale at all the Ford dealers I looked at, but got the best out the door price of almost $300 at Sunrise Ford. It is now for sale for $228.38. Is this the economic whiplash effect of suppliers being way overstocked, or is it just time to start liquidating parts for our old trucks? https://www.sunrisefordparts.com/oem...ter-7c2z11002a
Maybe. Might be a mis-label. The price of the reman tacked on the new. When inventory get low, the pricing usually skyrockets, sometime 3 times the original price.
Just tried ordering a Ford master cylinder. Price was $92.40, again at Sunrise Ford. Shipping was over two weeks out, and it got cancelled 30 minutes after the order was placed. Called a local Ford dealer and they said there are 300 on back order, and only producing 32 units/month. Apparently when covid hit, Ford laid-off 75% of their manufacturing workforce and can't get most of them to come back to work. Really don't want to, but it looks like I'm gonna have to go aftermarket. The AC Delco unit is $165 at Rockauto,...ugh.
If anyone has been thinking about a starter, I suggest you order while they're available and on sale.
Sunrise obviously is screwed up. Ford makes glass, engines, transmissions, and not all the parts. Suppliers provide most of the vehicles' components; the 32 per month is a BS number.
Tokico makes the master cylinders for Ford and a large part of the rest of the industry. They have for decades.
I have a Ford OE master, but it's going on my vehicle. I bought it over a year ago when they were still available. The writing has been on the wall for some time that parts are going away.

Whatever the truth is, the three suppliers I looked at have lead times of at least ten days, which is significantly longer than I am used to seeing.

The only parts I remember people having a hard time finding have been over the turbo wire harness shelf and main engine harnesses. And I noticed the hydraulic brake booster has been discontinued by Ford. What else has gone missing?
I don't hunt for everything, I just notice it when I'm looking for things.
Earlier you mentioned a parts price goes down as clearance; I've found it to go up as it gets scarce. Battery cables come to mind. Years ago I bought new Motorcraft cables so I could get precise measurements. At first it was a 2003, but then I repeated with a 2007 as some said there were changes. I should have not returned them, but you can see some escalation between those two years.
Today -
The 6.0L production was 15 to 19 years ago. They don't keep supplying parts for everything. Typically at 10 years they start tapering off.
I was simply asking a question of why they are on sale. It doesn't make sense due to the scarcity reality. Perhaps the 6.0 starter is on sale because everyone and their mother is going to the 6.4 and 6.7 models.
That price jump is pretty freakin' nuts. I bought that cable assembly on September 15, 2018 for $65.79.
Unfortunately, Pensacola Fuel Injection did not get in touch and thus did not comment on the problem, I find such a pity.
But it may also be that I have not expressed myself correctly.
I had also attached the invoice from that time (see above post #11).
here my mail:

Hello,
I bought 2 starters in December 2019 (see attached invoice).
I installed one of them in my own truck in April 2020. Were they original Ford parts as described?
I am currently in Scotland with the truck on vacation and the starter gear spins but it does not spurt at the flywheel once the engine is warm.
What could be the cause of this?
Thanks for the quick help.
