Rehabbing a 91 E350 7.5l. I just replaced the radiator, and am looking to top off some transmission fluid lost in that process.
I have the factory specs from ALLDATADIY, and that says type F. However when I search with the vehicle specs all the auto parts stores are showing Mercon V and the like.
Ive read that these two really aren't compatible, and I've also read that Ford stopped using Type F in the early 80s.
So with all this conflicting info I'm not sure what to do next, any ideas? Thanks!
If you can buy a nice pan for it with a drain plug
My Hughs was quite expensive
I figure it is worth it if it saves me time on a rebuild
Here is a picture, get one if you can
When it comes to transmission pan drain plugs I like this type: Quick Changer #71314 Its somewhat between no drain plug at all and perhaps a more expensive increased capacity pan. It's the same size and thread as the engine oil drain plug which I also use one of these. They thread right into the factory oil pan hole.
When installing in a transmission drain pan I drill a suitable hole, insert the Quick Changer and secure it all in place with #271 Loctite (red) and a heavy hex nut in the 14mm-1.5 size to make sure it never leaks or comes loose.
