Mercon SP for the TorqShift tranny. It is the only fluid that can be used according to Ford. Some aftermarket companies claim that their fluid meets Fords specs, but it is a big ($$$) gamble.

At the current moment, Mercon SP is it. Mercon LV is out and can be used in it to. Suppose to increase the service intervals to 60k miles w/ LV.

DO NOT mix Mercon SP with anyother fluid. If you have a torqueshift transmission DO NOT put anything other than SP fluid... A truck at the shop came in the customer topped off the fluid approx. 1 qt. and the transmission pretty much ate itself..... Nasty...

Not sure where you have seen this in print or from Ford... but this is bad advice.

The torqueshift tranny was designed (and still is as far as anything official) should only have Mercon SP fluid used!!!

There is no "and, if, or buts" about this recommendation and until Ford publishes otherwise... I think your post is bad information. As well, I do not see Ford extending service intervals to 60,000 miles based upon past experience and the amount of towing people do with their trucks... (but I could be wrong).

For the benefit of all posters and readers, let only quote fluids that are in the manual and/or published by Ford as an official update.

If for some reason you are right and I am wrong and you can point me to the Ford site or publication that backs up your statement above, then I will openly appologize in this thread.

Thanks,

From Ford:

Transmission Fluid
NOTICE:
Motorcraft MERCON
â LV, MERCONâ V and
MERCON
â SP are not interchangeable
transmission fluids.

The use of any transmission fluid other than the
recommended transmission fluid may cause
transmission damage.

Refer to the transmission fluid level indicator for
the type of transmission fluid required.

The transmission fluid should be changed every
96,000 km (60,000 mi) regardless of normal or
special operating conditions.

I thought that was every 30,000 miles?

Yeah - our 6.0L manuals say 30k. I believe the 09's are every 60k (this is the reference for my quote).

There was a person that posted on another thread that said his dealership told him 60k is OK. Personally, I would stick to the manual and do it every 30k.

Especially if one is still covered by the 3/36 warrenty.... or if they bought some sort of extended warrenty. If push comes to shove.... your dealership will deny everything and the onwer will be SOL if a problem occurs. Go by the manual (every 30,000 miles and use Mercon SP only) and you will be fine.

Forget what the dealership states... they have to many cars and maintenance schedules to remember all of them perfectly. When in dought, read you manual and do it on or before the stated time or mileage interval in order to maintain your warrenty or longevity of your vehicle.

I have the ESP bumper to bumper and will stick with the 30,000 mile schedule. Much cheaper than a new tranny!

Good advice to all, regardless if they have the extended warrenty.

Since many dealerships can't keep up on every fluid to use in all the various cars and trucks... makes sure you ask for Mercon SP on the ticket and/or that they use Mercon SP.

My dealership told me that Mercon SP comes to them in quart containers (not bulk), so this is a sure way to watch to see if the service tech uses the right fluid or not.

I watch.... and for 1 hour of my time, I sleep better knowing the right fluid was used and the external tranny filter was replaced. This is why ONLY the diesel tech at my Ford dealership works on my truck and not the "guy" in the fast-lube lane!!!!

Thanks,
I think they are using Mercon LV in the 09 Torqueshift and have moved the service intervals to 60,000 miles on the 09's using the LV. I do not think you can interchange the fluids. With that being said I agree with Beach and would only run SP in any Torqueshift that had it in it from the factory , besides Mercon SP is an outstanding tranny fluid and works great in the Torqueshift because it was designed just for this tranny.
