Bar Hopping right now. Checking out some nightclubs, and live bands. Then greasy spoon food at a 24 hour diner.
It's been years sense I have been Bar Hopping, this little town I live in was prime years ago. Three different bars that you could boat to and one of them right on the edge of town, you could walk to five more from there. At least three of them usually had live music on the weekends. That was a lot of fun. It's not like that now, now there are lots of wineries with music during the day. One club down town has started having music for 2 hours on Saturday from 8 to 10:00 PM.

Living in The City, there's always something to do. Museums. Live shows. Musicals. Street fairs. Sporting events. Parks are everywhere. The Beach. With all the different people from around the world, there's usually some sort of cultural even. And sometimes just hanging out. Find a cafe somewhere, and just hang out. Talk to people. Watch the sport being played on the big screen.
There was an event on Fillmore Street. Once known as The Jazz District, The Fillmore Auditorium and John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom Room have hosted some of the most famous musicians from around the world. About 5 blocks along Fillmore Street. Tents. Booths. Food. Music. Games for kids. Face painting. No rickshaw rides. That street fair is on the other side of town.
Thanks for the photos Rob, that is some weird chit you have going on there, and that poster in the background in the last photo... What the hell is that about?
My brother and his wife visited us some years ago. They are from north-central Minnesota. About as "country" as country can get. On one of our outings during that visit, we took them to Fisherman's Warf, and (of course) saw many of the street attractions. Their eyes just about popped out of their heads. It was fun to watch their reactions.
Alternative lifestyles are the tourist attraction. They either come to partake, or gawk. Even Chinatown is exotic, and alternative. It still amazes me, that tourist gawk at a cooked duck or a live chicken. Come on! As if people from The MidWest have never seen a chicken? I understand if they have never seen a person getting whipped and flogged. I should start a bus tour. Bring all the tourist from San Francisco, to Foster Farms in The Central Valley. Maybe bring them all to Fresno, to take pictures of whatever is exciting in Fresno.
I BBQ'd two full racks of beef ribs yesterday. They were on the grill for about two and a half hours. They were excellent, and Archer appreciated the bones. He's a hound dog of sorts and will spend today finding the best spot to bury each one.
I had a watermelon today. My ex was really into watching FoodTV, and she bought every expensive kitchen gadget endorsed by a celebrity chef. Including some of those extremely expensive knives. First, it was the German steel brands. The fancy ceramic knives, which never need sharpening, came after that. Then the stainless steel Global brand, which was endorsed by the next wave of celebrity chefs. She literally laughed at me when I bought a Ronco saw. As seen on TV. I found it for less than five dollars at one of those liquidation places. It's actually a saw. Not a good one. I wouldn't do carpentry with it. It feels awkward in your hands. There's no heft or balance. It's a little too soft and flexible at times. The teeth are just weird enough that it completely fails at slicing bread or carving meat. Forget about fish and tomato. But it works when you have pineapple, melons, cactus, need to break down an animal at the vertebrae, or saw through ball joints. The tougher jobs that would ruin or break some of those expensive pieces of fine cutlery. This "saw" with it's strange looking serrated teeth seems to be just right.
