Well guys. I've gone and done it. I've exited the third world. I finally got high speed internet at the house. For the past 5 years I've had satellite internet, first from Hughes and then from ViaSat. Speeds were all over the map, but the latest test showed less than 2 MB down and about 0.10 MB up. Sigh... Etheric Networks was here this morning to install my hardware for ground to ground microwave service. They beam the signal from Loma Prieta to a tower on my neighbor's hill behind their house. It's then beamed down to my house. Hardwired to the model I got 75 MB down, 60 MB up, and 2 to 3 ms latency. The long cable hooked to a router is dropping me down to the forties, but that's o'plenty for what I need.
After I am appointed, I will name you to my administration as "special agent". Get you a badge, like Hefner & Elvis. Assign you to The Fraud Unit, to make sure that top price steakhouses are actually serving prime grade meat. You may need a medical clearance from your doctor. I wouldn't want you to suffer an on the job injury when you are out there, undercover, eating prime rib.
Thanks Rob, I'm looking forward to my new position!
The loquat tree is lush with fruit. Most of it up so high, that I can't reach it. I got on a ladder, and reached what i could. The best pieces were already pecked by birds. I figured I would grab whatever I could, so that the birds don't get everything. Once a year, I get to taste this amazing fruit. Now I am left to stare at the fruit on the high branches, and seethe, knowing that it's so good and going to the birds.
Happy Sunday Nor Cal. Friday, when it was 104 degrees here in the arm pit of California, the power went out. Stayed out for 18 hours. So in the first ten days of June, the power has gone out twice for a total of 30 hours. I am not a happy camper. It went out Friday evening, and stayed off until 7pm Saturday night. Can't do anything. No TV, no computer, no electric recliner (where I sleep) and no fan. Trying to sleep in a room that is 93 degrees just doesn't work.
It is showing 97 at the moment, but the power is on and the AC has been on since I got back from church, so I am good.
Looks like I'll be selling the Ranger. My daughter's boyfriend wants to buy it, and I want to get back to only one vehicle. The car is in better shape, so the Ranger goes. This way I only have one vehicle to maintain, insure, and register. Have to save money where I can. I got rid of the free government phone because it kept acting up. So I now have a Samsung Galaxy A13 from Xfinity. Only $16 a month with their cheapest data plan.
Sorry to hear about your outages. We have had several on the section of grid that covers my folks place. These have been mechanical failures (veh. vs pole).
What irritates me the most about the outages, is that it only affects two apartment complexes. The transformer that blows is right in front of my complex, and when it goes, it does damage to other equipment around the area (I am guessing, because it takes so long to fix, and I have seen the crews around the corner). but only we lose power, and it takes anywhere from 12-18 hours to fix. I have had power outages happen before, but they are usually fixed in 3 to 4 hours. No idea why it takes 12-18 now.
I sounds like you have a local grid overload, or possibly a load imbalance. PG&E tries to compensate for this by switching homes between the 3 phases they have in your local area, but they don't have a lot of control about what loads a local neighborhood will add or subtract.
When we have outages out here in the boonies, it typically lasts for a day or two, and sometimes longer. We have had an out last well over a week on a couple of occasions. That's why we have our own generator.
Preheat the oven to highest setting. My oven is 500 Fahrenheit. 15 minutes. Turn it off. Don't open the door. Leave it for a few hours. It slow cooks in the residual heat.
Grrrr. Took the ranger in yesterday to get it smog tested, and it failed. Two brand new cats, and fuel return hoes, and it fails. Cost $80 to get that info. I don't remember what the category was, but the max allowed was 348 and the truck is recording 1210....They wanted $120 to do a diagnostic, but my son in law has a friend who runs a garage, so he will take it there. He is the one who is buying the truck. I find it hard to believe the truck is that far off considering what I paid for last year.
