I replaced the ECT sensor on my 2005 F-250 today and took the CAC pipe off it's upper connection to give me a little more room. Now I cannot get that pipe back on. Anybody run into this, any ideas on how to get that back on? Below is a picture of the pipe i'm struggling with.
I have done it in a warm garage and with some wiggling and pushing it went together, sorry I am not more helpful. I recommend a metal replacement CAC (plastic likes to crack) found here; FORD OEM 6.0L V8 DRIVER SIDE CAC INTERCOOLER PIPE UPGRADE Kit 6C3Z-6C640-AA (ficmrepair.com). I also would flush the cooling system and get rid of the green stuff. You want a CAT EC-1 spec ELC coolant, I like Rotella Ultra ELC, but anything meeting EC-1 spec will work great. Good Luck, Russ
There are times it can be troublesome. A little oil on the ID of the tube, and sometimes I use a cotter pin removal tool to help ease it over like changing a tire. Usually you will find the rubber lip not wanting to over the OD.
Long screwdriver, pry-bar, or similar. Tip of screwdriver or whatever you're using in the lifting eye and surprisingly little pressure to the elbow and it pops right on.
Thanks Russell! I'm curious about the green coolant too. That was actually put in there by a local Ford dealer when they do were doing some other work for me. Shouldn't it be yellow/gold?
I purchased this CAC pipe to replace the cheap plastic pipe that came with my 2007 F350 6.0l DRW. I believe they changed the CAC pipe to plastic in 2005 but this pipe is a perfect fit.
This CAC pipe looks much nicer in my engine bay and probably less chance of braking when removing/installing.
I know the new Ford coolant is some type of yellowish green. My truck came with green when I bought it, but it was more of a bright "neon" than the traditional green so I wondering if it was this new stuff. It's gone now!
To the OP, upgrade to the metal CAC tube. You can get the whole kit for not much money (~$100) and not have to worry about the plastic tube cracking at the bellows (down by the air filter): https://www.riffraffdiesel.com/drive...ube-kit-03-07/
use a hair dryer or heat gun on low to heat slightly
goes right on
im cold weather you will not get these on without warming up
