Hi, I realized at the first oil change almost 40 years ago that I needed to do something to limit the mess created by draining the sump directly onto the cross-member of my 360 (now 390) based F100.
Just wondering what others have come up with to avoid the mess in the last 40 years.
Fumoto makes several different configurations, I think. Surely one of them will work?
I have Fumoto valves in my other 4 cars and really like draining into a bottle with zero mess. Tried several styles on the truck and no go. Either they won’t thread because of clearance, or the nub/lever lines up the wrong way. Can’t use their extension, and cannot find an alternative that fits. It would need to be a 35deg angle that threads perfectly, (unicorn). Next time I pull the engine, that oil pan is getting a relocated drain.

X3 on relocate the drain plug! I moved mine to the back of the pan, while I had the engine apart. It works much better.
Wish I would have thought about that when I did my engine.
I have fashioned a trough (so to speak) out of a 2-1/2" metal stud track with 1-1/2" high legs, a little forming and it has worked great for me for years.
Still wish I would have thought about relocating the drain plug, next time I guess.
Never thought about changing drain location. I have used all kinds of rudimentary objects to direct the oil flow from the cross member. Cut up water bottles, milk jugs, and paper. Whatever it takes.
change your oil pan to a 390 thunderbird or galaxie pan. they are rear drain plug. did mine when i rebuilt the 390. i used the thunderbird four barrel intake also. there is a 390 galaxie oil pan on ebay.
