While I have changed oil in every car, truck, tractor, ATV etc. this is my first oil change on my 2005 F350 CC DW LB that I have done. Its actually easier than most as the filter is on top and easy to get to. No mess there. Just have a pan that can hold 14+ quarts of oil and you are good to go. Filling it back up takes more time than draining it. Also saved about $40 over dealers cost.
Now to do the fuel filters. Will report back when I tackle that.
Makes sure you keep your own records for the dealer, just in case anything goes wrong and they accuse you of not doing any maintence. Also, how many quarts did it take to fill it back up? Every oil change I do on a 6.0 takes 16 to fill it back up.
TinyOne, Great comments- Also, good timing on starting this thread since I did the first change on my 06 yesterday at 1,426 miles. Took 13.5 quarts to midway on the hashmarks (My 03 always took 14).
BTW I am waiting to install the Fumoto valve for a couple more change intervals as my stock drain plug magnet had some grey metalic sludge and the Fumoto doesn't have a magnet-
As close as I could tell it took 14 qts. Just a bit over half way up the hash.Drain plug had no sediment that was noticable. I however did not see the plug on previous changes. Would a person still see anything on the plug after 20,000 miles?
I'm hoping to not see anything metalic on my plug at the next change (at 4,000 miles) and you certainly shouldn't see anything on your plug at 20,000 miles.

That's a lot oil!!!
The 6.0L only holds 15 qts and when doing an oil change a 1/2 quart or so stays in the high-pressure system. Many find that 13.5 - 14.5 qts is what it takes to bring to full.
If your adding 16qts then you have a bad dip-stick or something... beucase that is more than the total capacity of the system & pan!!!!
To much oil and you will foam it up and starve your injectors of oil!!!!
Just an observation... Some folks seem to be chasing the dipstick marks when stating "Mine takes......".
When I had the V10, posts were made regarding what the V10 'holds'. Ford stated 6 qts, which was upped to 7 with the 3 valve. The diptick on the V10 was not accurate based on the fact that 6 qts brought mine (and seemed like most if not all others) up halfway between 'full' and 'add'. A lot of guys feel like they needed to fill to 'full' resulting in overfilling by 1/2 to 1 qt. I doubt if 1 qt overfull caused any problem other than wasting 1 qt of oil. I believe it would take more of an overfill to cause foaming due to crank interference than 1 qt. After a lifetime of driving and changing oil, 'full' on the dipstick has always resulted from filling the crankcase with the specified amount of oil. Ford, apparently, is having trouble with this.
