What is the best aftermarket glow plug relay for my 2001 7.3 to start in the winter put new glow plugs and a new relay and its only a little better. I did some research and found they made upgraded gprs, so what is the best option for my truck to get it to start in the cold? Thank you all for any help.
If you look on the 7.3 forum there is quite a bit of talk about the relays. The White-Rogers was what everyone said was the hot ticket for awhile but now it seems there is one that is used on snowplows & stuff that folks are using I believe it's called Trombetta.
One thing check as well is your wiring and glow plugs. when I had problems with my solenoid it was often because I had wiring or glow plug issues which caused the relay to have an excessive amount of current flowing through it. Which in turn contributed to it burning up. The relays are marginal at best. when several glow plugs are out it causes the remaining ones to heat up quicker increasing the amp draw. Damaging the relay as well as burnt connections at the under valve cover harness connection

You put on a new Glow Plug Relay. You put in new Glow Plugs.... are they all coming on?
I believe that you are ok....
But... have a very good set of batteries. have them load tested.
I just installed a new starter and Trombetta gpr and it's a whole new world. For years I've kept in plugged in because it just sucked once the temps dropped below 40 F. I'm actually looking forward to this weekend because the temp is droping into the single digits and I want to see the real difference. I've got a 2002 7.3 with 210,000 miles and have never changed the gpr before.
