Man! This F-250 is a monster compared to the GM 2500HD’s. It’s huge, tons of ground clearance. 7.3 and 10 speed way better than GM 6.6 gas and 6 speed. Wife was blown away how big and bad it is and how nice the interior is!
Agree with so much of this. I drove nothing but GM trucks for 35 years. Yes-35 years. Last truck was DuraMax. Power train was great-no problems very smooth, powerful.
Wanted to go back to gas and GM and Ford were both coming out with new gassers for 2020. Drove all three brands. Choice was very clear (see sig). I still cannot understand why GM comes out with new gasser and puts a six speed behind it. That was final straw for me.
As far as rust: we live in New England. While Duramax was great, the chassis on my last GM was Swiss cheese. Despite annual oil/fluid film the bed rails, chassis mounts, and rear shock were gone. I literally drove that truck for one full year with NO REAR SHOCKS. (I had already welded them once and just gave up). Chassis had got so bad truck was no longer safe to drive.
The new F350 gasser has been fantastic and exceeds my expectations in very way so far.
I had my Sierra 1500 for 7 years and I loved it no problems whatsoever until it met its early demise via t bone. I looked at some newer gmcs and chevys they were ugly inside and out no way I was buying another one I love my new f250 it looks amazing inside and out and drives great can't wait to finish breaking it in hope it continues to perform the way it has so far
I have driven nothing but Chevy pickups my whole life and I am from a GM family. The new 2020 HD pickups were so fugly I ordered one of the last possible 2019 3500HDs. Now that I have 50k on my 19 3500 Dmax, I need to trade. I could stomach a GMC but my dealer simply cannot get trucks. If you look at what you get for 80k, the GM trucks do not compete whatsoever. Adaptive cruise, nope. Heated rear seats, nope. Massaging front seats, nope. Modern infotainment, nope. Do I need those items, probably not. Do I expect them for 80k? Absolutely. So, I am switching to the darkside and have a 350 platinum on order. The way it is going I will put tires on my 19 Silverado and keep it because I won't get my F350.
A few years ago I was in the market for a used truck, I wanted another super duty but the prices for them were out of sight. I was looking for an extended cab which is non existent because everyone wants a crew cab. Long story short I found a 12 GMC 2500, didn't want another diesel for my daily truck and couldn't find anything in gas on the GM side either so I bought it. Its been nothing but a emission's nightmare, DEF issue after DEF issue, NOX sensors EGT sensors, Regen issues blah blah blah. I finally fixed it myself after fighting with the dealer and its been ok.
The new GMC's are nice, but honestly if I could get into another SD Id do it tomorrow, but like everywhere else used car prices are through the roof for rusted junk and new trucks are pretty scarce for what I want. Ill wind up driving the GMC into the dirt, and keep my 17 SD for family trips and towing the 5th wheel. The SD in my opinion is way nicer than the GM, even though in my case Im not comparing apples to apples.
Right now there is a $3000 difference in price between the two truck I optioned out. The chevy is cheaper, but between the higher payload, pulling and no RUST issues..... $3000 well spent!
Lots of threads on death wobble. Make sure all your front end components are tight with no slop. Many, myself included, have changed the castor shims to increase castor and upgraded to a better steering damper to resolve the issue. Feel free to switch trucks, but the death wobble issue can be solved for a minimal investment if you otherwise like the truck.
Thats good to hear but I am sure having a difficult time finding a shop that will do anything in Eastern Iowa. However, I’m planning to search for a shop in Tucson area this winter.
I was a lifelong Chevy guy before purchasing my new F350 in 2020. The new Chevy HD's had come out and were (are) ugly as sin which got me looking at Ford and Ram. The more I compared, I realized I liked everything about the Ford more than the Chevy. Ram really came in 3rd in all categories for me.
I rented a 2021 Chevy with the diesel for three weeks over the summer. It seemed like it was always going into regen and when I had to initiate it manually it sounded like the truck would blow up. Junk. I would never own one.

Interesting. I never know when my F350 is in regen. It's totally transparent.

That Chevy is homely though.
The chevy IFS has their own issues. Not sure about the latest models but in the past they came with weak tie rod ends and poor quality ball joints. The aluminum front differential is weak sauce. Wheel bearing failure was common. I feel like my super duty also rides better.
In 2011 GM significantly upgraded their HD IFS. The weak split case diff housing was replaced with a one piece Salisbury type housing, still aluminum but much stronger. Forged upper and cast lower control arms replaced the stamped parts of the 2010-back design. Tie rod ends, wheel bearings, and CV joints were substantially larger. The control arm mounting points on the frame were upgraded along with larger torsion bars. System is very robust now and has zerk fittings on most every joint. It does give up a little ground clearance in certain situations to the Ford SFA, but I think GM's IFS is more reliable, rides better, and is sure easier on tires.
Funny a lot of Ford guys think the late model GM HD IFS is exactly the same and still has all the problems the 2010 and older GM trucks had, while the Chevy guys all think the 6.7L Powerstroke is as bad as the old 6.0L's and 6.4L's!

I had two IFS Chevys, 1994 1500 Z71 114K miles and a 2004 2500LD 4x4 117K miles. Used both of them hard, hunting though out the west.
No problems with the 1994.
Had one wheel bearing go out on the 2004.
Tie rods were only a issue if you ran 35” or larger tires and beat it off road, it was easy to put sleeves on them or replace them with thicker ones.
If I remember correctly GM stopped using aluminum front differentials in 2010 never had a problem. Solid trucks!
I remember tell my die hard Ford coworker that while I was greasing the 11 zerks on the 2004. I noticed the grease boots on the upper ball joints were cracked after 15 years and 100k miles. He’s response was “CHEVY’S HAVE GREASE ZERKS AND BOOTS”, I said “FORDS DON’T”??? My 1994 had them too!
