So I'm in a pinch with time and took the truck into the shop to get injectors. So the work being done is all 8 injectors dummy plugs, standpipes. Dropping transmission pan and replacing a shift solenoid so a trans service goes with that. Replacing a right rear axle seal. And pulling and cleaning the turbo. They said $6100 for parts and labor. Seemed a bit high to me but I have not taken a vehicle into a shop in a long time to get work done.
Not sure what year your truck is, but you might upgrade the STC fitting if it has one, and the turbo oil line if its the braided mesh type. Check and service the IPR, EGR, and, EBP too.
Sounds like youre over 200k miles - you might have a brittle Y-pipe under your degas bottle that will get stressed by this project.
Post the shop's name so the community knows to avoid this MASSIVE RIP OFF.
In my estimation about 90% of the so-called "diesel techs" out there are clueless, untrained or poorly trained / lacking experience --- I had one of these "diesel techs" apply for a position (so I did my random screening test) and the idiot couldn't even hook up a (OTC) pressure gauge (special conn) to a Duramax, didn't have the foggiest clue what was wrong with the truck (it was a bad fuel cap -- two quick pressure, vac checks would have found the problem in 5-10 minutes).
