Yeah, my idea would have been good to try before he ever bought the Pioneer part, if you wanted to confirm the problem before spending the money.

Hopefully a transmission expert will come along and provide you with some specific direction.

Mark - flows to that external filter are really unimpressive, not sure it even does much but have seen many clogged / filthy from not being changed ever.

I'm with you on grounds -- always run voltage drop tests on the ground, also look for voltages elsewhere in places they shouldn't be.....these trannies (rock solid citizens as far as I'm concerned) do a re-learn, not that fast in some instances.

That depends on the fluid temp, how open to the cooler. 10 to 80 minutes for the pan volume. You can extrapolate that out for the full quantity of fluid in the trans. But every week the full trans fluid is being polished unless you are sitting at home.

It is a bypass filter, so you are right in that it loses some effectiveness because of that. I can't recall the % of the circulated flow that is directed to the bypass filter, but as in all bypass filters it is a rather small percentage. Even so, bypass filtration is an effective design practice as the circulation rate will result in a very high percentage of the total fluid volume being filtered in a reasonably short time. It protects against a slow build up of solids, but not against solids generated by catastrophic failures.

That said, it is the only true filtration you have. It is imperative to keep it changed. These solenoids absolutely need clean fluid.

If someone wants better filtration, then they need to install the 08 pan and filter setup. I probably should have done that years ago, but at approx 232k miles (more than half of it with some heavy tunes), and still on the original transmission, I will probably just keep doing what I am doing. I'm just not driving it as much anymore.

O O What a Joke parts are not to be trusted, I'd also instrument for a overall line pressure check (with gauge) , also monitor the commanded pressures (and related amperages) for these PIDs given swaps:

SSPCA
SSPCD

and LINEDSD -- commanded line pressure (0-300psi)
