2007 E450 box truck with 5R11OW transmission and 6.0 powerstroke will not go into overdrive.I drove to dealer and left for repair estimate.Overdrive is shredded, needs reman Trans for 6800.00. I am feeling that is not right,so I am going to go get it and drive to another shop.
My question is what rpms can I safely drive at down the hiway at sustained speed/rpm to get to the other shop? What is maximum rpm, ram, what sustained rpm for 10 to 15 miles can I travel at?
When I asked the service writer he said not over 5000 rpms.I have a hard time believing that. What is the real answer?Thank you.
The engine will not run at a speed that is dangerous for the engine. The PCM limits engine speed. If you can get the engine to run at a certain speed, it is safe to do it.'
Does the trans have all other gears? Does it shift 1-2-3-4? Because second gear uses the same overdrive clutch as overdrive gear.
"Defuel at 4000 rpm's to limit damage to the powertrain" Source : Ford PC/ED manual - page 1-13
I have been told by a Tech that he was taught by Ford Technical that damage can occur at over 4200 rpm (assuming the F450 would be the same as my 2006, and I don't see why it wouldn't be).
Personally I wouldn't risk getting all that close to that rpm.
