I know there must be several radiator-related threads on this forum, but I've not been able to locate them. Here's my request: I have a 1976 F350 Supercab camper special, 460 and C6. This truck has the extra cooling capacity radiator. How do I determine how many rows in the OEM radiator? Can they be counted looking through the radiator cap opening? I believe the extra cooling radiator came with 4 rows--is that correct?
Your truck most likely has the optional Super Cooling radiator (26 1/4" wide x 24 11/16" high). The top tank is HUGE, it's wider and deeper than the standard/xtra cooling & A/C radiators (that are 26 1/4" x 19 3/4"), overlaps the core.

The dimensions (26 1/4" wide x 24 11/16" high) you provided for the optional Super Cooling radiator match the dimensions of my radiator. Then can I assume it has 4 rows of cooling fins?
I had my original OEM radiator re-cored 5 years ago; not cheap at $450. This past week I noticed some coolant on the floor under the truck. Turns out the leak was on the engine side of the top tank, along the seam where it attaches to the core. Fortunately, the guy who did the re-core job was still in business and he repaired the radiator for free, since it was his work that had failed. I gave him a generous tip; radiator repair shops are becoming a thing of the past. Mostly remove and replace these days.
You got lucky twice, one that the guy was still in business and 2 that he repaired it for free. But that was like any good old school business would do, and those are almost a thing of the past too.
wow, didn't know they'd gone up that much. But that's another reason why the newer crop of aluminum ones are selling so well. Even if you don't trust one, at their price point it's hard to not at least be willing to experiment.
I bet they're still available somewhere for $100 bucks, but guessing most of them are in the $300 range maybe? Haven't looked but that seems like what I remember.
