So I've been meaning to make a thread about this but keep forgetting to. A while ago I was driving and wanted to watch the gauges on torque pro, so I opened it up and was keeping an eye on it. After a few minutes I looked down and I believe it was the oil temp gauge was pegged. I was a bit concerned but kept driving and pretty soon my dash made a ding, the CEL came on and the truck shut off, again this is while driving. Pulled over, started right up and drove just fine. Then I watched the torque pro gauges closer. After a few minutes I watched all the torque gauges, one by one max out, the dash made a ding, CEL came on and the truck shut off. I unplugged the obd adapter and continued driving, with no issues after. Then on a different occasion maybe a month or two after I was driving, most likely with my TS chip set to 50 or 75hp, it was like the tuner was switched back to stock, but barely made boost. I thought I blew a boot, but as I was pulling over it kinda loped a little then shut off. I went to look at the boots and everything was fine. I tried starting it, which took longer to fire, then died a couple seconds after it did. I tried starting it again and it fired up and ran like nothing was wrong. That was the last time I drove it, as of now I have the engine out and I'm working on re sealing it. Now I'm not sure if that last incident was related but I'm just wondering how often this kind of stuff happens and if it's torque pro, or the adapter, or something completely different. What are your thoughts?
I never had good luck with TorquePro (TP), even after I got it to work somewhat reliably. I switched to FORScan Lite (FSL) and have never looked back.
TorquePro is pretty and appealing, but FORScan is rock solid and reliable. TP is like that supermodel that is great to look at but is a hug hassle to deal with and get going. FSL is like the beautiful girl next door that is into fishing, shooting and drinking a few cold beers on the porch/dock.
If you would like to familiarize yourself with FORScan, check out the 7.3L PSD Tech Folder and specifically the links below. I would recommend starting with the instructions for your device and then the Q&A created by FTE'r BWST.
If you feel you like FSL and convert from TP, you will have access to using the improved PID Charting Tool.
I like FSL over TP so much, that it was one of the major deciding factors of me going full in and installing an Android head unit to use FSL, Google Maps and other apps in the dashboard. I prefer less distractions and screens, your preference may be different and I encourage you to go the route that makes you most at peace.
Below is a screenshot of the display of the head unit as it sits in the dash. FSL is the second from the right and will be online within 2 seconds of pushing the app button.
Below is a picture I took recently showing the FSL gauges I had initially loaded.
Good to know, it's definitely no secret that TP is a little glitchy. I find it a little weird that I've had it open for hours and hours on road trips and just randomly this stuff happens. I did just buy FSL, when I get the ol girl back together I'll get it set up for it. Do you use the cheap ELM 327 adapters?
Also what is that head unit? I've been looking for something like that. Does it need its own service or do you just cast your phone screen on there?

Sous has done quite a bit of research on this, I have read it may times thinking it would be cool to do as well, I see he referenced it in his statement! DOH!
Sous, if you don't mind me asking what does Forscan Lite limit you to as opposed to the full version? I see you can only have Lite on an Android device. Also, my Android tablet is several years old and OS updates are no longer available for it, does Forscan require a certain recent version of Android OS?

It is an Android OS head unit, similar to a tablet, but in the form of an in dash stereo. All of the information you may need is in that thread somewhere that I linked. There is no screen cast feature on the unit I selected, but there are on other Android head units. I selected this one due to the dual BT receivers, but I didn't end up using both like I had originally thought.
If you ELM 327 adapter worked with TP, it should work with FSL. Although, I tend to like the OBDLink line of products or the BAFX adapter as a secondary budget friendly option.

Thanks for having my back, I do appreciate it!

No problem at all, basically it is what it says it is. It is a slimmed down version of FORScan on a laptop or PC. FSL can still run various tests like buzz test and check/clear codes, but some of the more "advanced" features are not there. Things like adjusting the speedometer based on tire size. Frankly, I think the PC version is too cumbersome to use on a regular basis. I much prefer the FSL version. It is simple and quick to use.
Once in the truck, if I want to use FSL on the head unit, I push the app button (just like you would on a phone or tablet) and FORScan is up in a second. Once it is connected and the truck in the top left turns green, the gauges are up and you can go about your business.
