First REGEN Observed

I just wanted to post what I observed with my first regen since buying the truck last Saturday. I have the Torque Pro set so I see the soot% and the regen on/off on the main screen. When the soot% got to about 98% the regen ON light came on. I was driving in town and the regen took a while. I switched to the EGT screen and noticed that one of the 4 EGT gauges went to around 1100. I think it was EGT 14, but I won't bet on it. The soot% eventually returned to the 50% range and the regen completed. I plan to set up my logger today so it will log all the EGT gauges so next time I get in the 90% range, I can start logging. By the time I got home all 4 EGT gauges were showing in the 400s. From what I have read, this seems fairly normal.

Pretty normal, after a few more of these you will hardly pay attention

Using Torque Pro, I've seen EGT temp going up to 1500 and higher.
Depending on driving conditions, the regen may stop sooner than usual, which is around 15%
If it stops sooner, as in your case around 50%, don't worry. It will start again once you reach the level above 90%.

I also noticed that going uphill while pulling my toyhauler, the soot % decreases significantly without going into regen cycle. Once going through the cajon pass, it went from around 70% down to about 10% - no regen, then going downhill it started picking up % soot again.

Passing regen. The manual mentions this.

page 30 of the 2015 Diesel Supplement

Passive regeneration

In passive regeneration, the exhaust system temperature and constituents automatically clean the filter, or reduce the soot level, by burning (oxidizing) the soot. Cleaning occurs naturally because of normal engine operating conditions (at varying levels, due to driving patterns).

I noticed the same thing today when I got on the highway. Soot% was at 80% and by the time I drove the 5 miles to get where I was going it was down to 77%. I will really get to see how it works when I tow the 5th wheel about 215 miles on Thursday. We don't have many hills around here to see how high the EGTs get. I'm thinking it won't even struggle. On the same route, my old 6.0 very seldom shifted out of OD. It's just nice to get some idea of what to expect with a new rig.

It is fun to watch and try to figure out, anticipate, and worry with.

I haven't looked at an egt reading since I traded in my 2008 6.4 diesel so I'm starting to get curious again.
