__ "A few months ago I started getting a random gear grinding noise for a few seconds that would be resolved if i switched into 4wd."
This a common experience.
You most likely have a bad right Passenger side front wheel Bearing. It will go quiet with side loading 4X4 lock or cornering but gradually gets very much worse. Remove the Brake Caliper to feel its rough spin of the rotor. The side load of the huge Brake Caliper is the reason it is quiet when jacked up.
Anyone see a waste of money here even the kit with multiple tools ? Maybe dealing with permanent red loctite and 500 degree heat, well figure on ball joint replacements is a no brainer also.

Those sorts of heaters have been finding their way into auto repair for some time now----I know two completely different repair outfits using them in very different ways. For what they do they're pretty much indispensable, easier to use and quite a bit more safe than torches, for the most part any way.
A friend in the auto/truck glass business uses a larger industrial unit that's portable---uses it to remove bonded quarter glasses which tend to be in very tight interior locations. Another big truck repair shop uses something similar to the one in that link for smaller bolts and studs where focused "safe" heat is helpful. They both run off 120 VAC.
I've not yet had a real need for one but if I did I'd have one PDQ.
What I see is very expensive, $300 + maybe and for the normal home repair a Propane or Mapp torch is so inexpensive for a 5 minute job. Following The safety thing / remove flamables and fire extinguisher present are always most important.
Pretty handy for some in need, but yea, a bit pricey. It does have it's advantages, concentrated heat, quick, no open flame, etc, but hard to justify a purchase for that kind of money.
On the other hand it is quite flexible in it's application, such as bending PVC or cooking a quick hotdog lol. I'd like to try it on some dents, seems like it would be highly controllable.
