I have a 1995 F-150 XL with A/C and I have a problem with the temperature ****. If I turn it towards hot while the blower is going, at about 3/4 of the way (picture below) the **** acts like it's hitting something. I've noticed that it doesn't do it at all when the blower is on low or off, and the more I turn it up the more it doesn't want to go past this point. I am able to turn it farther even when the blower is on high but it makes a sort of snapping noise like something breaking. I've also heard a noticeable hissing noise coming from the heater controls only when I turn it to off (the vacuum lines on the back of it I'm gonna guess). I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the **** getting stuck on something but if anyone has ideas, please let me know. At this position the temp **** gets caught on something.
I’ve had my 95 since 1998 at 64k miles and it has always been kind of tough to twist it past the center point. Not quite as hard as you’re describing but definitely resistance across the middle.
I was just posting my solution to this. I made the mistake of getting tough with the **** and broke the flame off.
behund and above the glove box you can see where the cable (it is cable, NOT vacuum operated) attached...that is likely broke off. Get creative with zip ties (I used zip ties and got glue) to reattach it.
Others may have ideas too, but that worked for me...but in my case I also (like a dumba$$) broke the flange off the back of the **** itself. I was able to melt it back together with a torch style lighter. Hopefully it holds.

My cable mount is fine (just checked to be sure). Mine isn’t hard to turn just feel a little resistance across the middle when it’s on high. If it ever does get worse though I’ll be sure to check behind the glove box before it’s too late! Thanks!
