Electric shift B/W 1356 Transfer case

I have a manual shifted B/W 1356 transfer case in my '53 COE. The linkage to the cab is going to be a challenge. The electric shifted one would be much easier to install. It looks like it would be pretty easy to convert mine to electric and I was wondering how well do the electric shift 1356s work? I posted it here because these year trucks had the 1356s.
Thanks, Ken.

Converting the manual shift case is probably more trouble than it is worth. The outer case has the casting for the motor, but the insides and especially the shift mechanism is totally different, by the time you tear apart the manual shift case, get all the electronic shift parts, maching the case for the shift motor, well it's waaaay more work than I'd want to do.. You're really better off just finding someone that has an electric shift case that wants to swap.

I agree with the above. Get an electric shift case. I'm not sure how the control system works but doubt is overly complicated.

My electric shift never gave me much trouble. Occasionally it would take several tries to make it shift but it always did shift. I eventually swapped to manual shift, simply bc I wanted a lower mile case and manual shift. One drawback is that there is no way to shift into neutral. Mine had 312,000 miles on it in total. I had replaced a few parts around 200k miles bc I incorrectly diagnosed a rear axle issue. It looked overall good inside, but with it apart and the rebuild kit on hand I figured why not.

Thanks guys. I had planned on finding an electric shifted unit and use the best parts from both. Mine is in good shape and has the speedo drive on the tailshaft, which I need for my '53's speedometer (the case shown in the picture was the one I traded for the one I have now with a speedo drive). If they weren't reliable I would find a way to use the one I have, but it sounds like they work ok. It's an option I'll keep in mind. Thank you.
