Northstar batteries

Hi all,

As part of my fix for my parasitic battery drain issue (in another post), I am getting 2 new batteries, new alternator, and new associated wiring.

I seem to understand from reading and research that the absolute best battery(s) to go with are Northstar, for our Excursions it would be NSB-AGM65. More CC amps than the yellow top Optima which in my mind has been the top of the heap battery, as well as some other technical advantages.

Where in the heck do you get these Northstar batteries??? I am in Minneapolis, and would prefer to buy local but every single place listed as a dealer on Odyssey's website (Northstar parent company I guess?) has not heard of Northstar and definitely does not carry them. WTF?

Can someone with experience please share your experiences with these batteries and also WHERE DID YOU BUY FROM? I will order online ofc if necessary but the few places I've found that carry them, I've never heard of.

Thanks all!

That isn't good. How do you plan on warranty service should it be necessary if they don't carry them locally? I've never warrantied a battery in my life. I buy them and when they die, go buy another one. For that kind of coin, I'd want the option though.

Because you are thinking too hard, you want to buy them from Batteries + Bulbs as these are sold as X2's and are the exactsame battery. These are marked X2 with the Northstar name in the corner. You also get the benefit of one additional year of warranty. Buy online and pick up in store and you can use the 10% off coupon on their website.

I buy mine from Fleet Farm (not sure if you have them where you are). They pretty much warranty anything....my last "36 month" battery they replaced after 6 years!

I bought that exact Northstar AGM battery through Amazon in 9/2018. Have three of them. No issues. Ready to use them this winter.

For $30 online get a battery tender and leave it plugged in. No more issues. Many of us have unresolved drainage issues.

+1 on this! I have Northstar in my car and I'd do the X2 if I could redo it!

I'd agree with this, no matter what battery anybody buys. They will keep a battery totally topped off really well when connected over the weeks and months. Service life will be maximized by quite a lot, so it will pay for itself several times over. I did discover a float charge is not enough to compensate for excessive parasitic or "phantom" loads. Better than nothing, though.

Depends.

NorthStar batteries are commonly sold for boats. Marine parts outlets have them, that's where I get mine. Some alternator repair places sell them too. Enersys bought NorthStar in 2019 so the Odyssey battery is probably the same/similar now.
