For me "south" is normally a good thing, but not in the case of Interstate Batteries.
I purchased MTP-65's about 4 years ago...20 months ago one was bad and they replaced both of them under warranty, Interstate's policy was to replace in pairs - GREAT! Well, now I have another one bad. Seems they will only warranty the bad one this time.
Maybe I'm expecting too much from an 85 month battery, but, I always held Interstate batteries in very high regard. Now with one bad after 26 months, another after 20 months the trend is not making me feel that good about my original purchase decison. And with an unmatched pair (new battery and a 20 month-old battery), I'm not that confident what the future will bring.
Replace the one under the warranty and buy a 2nd one.
Put the older used one on Craigslist and get some of the
money back for the new one you have to buy. Or save it
for something that needs a battery.
I bought a set of Interstate MTP-65 batteries about 3-4 years ago. When I wrecked my truck in 2010 we put them in my dad's '03 since his original Motorcrafts were 7-8 years old. Now that my rebuild is almost complete, I've been using his old Motorcraft batteries to move my truck around. The last few mornings it's been in the upper 20s, and we've noticed that his now 10 year old Motorcraft batteries are starting better in the cold than my 3-4 old Interstates. I'm definitely not impressed and will be trying to exchange them this week. Interstate has always been our go-to brand, not sure what I should get next...
